Either way there has to be some serious penalties imposed on the EFC and their players, otherwise the AFL will set a precedent in regards to the use of performance enhancing substances.
I agree with your view, but don't think “setting a precedent” worries the AFL at all. Tanking, rule changes, priority picks, blockbuster games, the list of “precedents” goes on.

On Jobe: I think he should be stripped of his Brownlow just for the pure stupidity of what he did. He's not some green kid fresh off the draft list, he's the captain of the club, and he should have had more sense. All professional athletes have hotlines they can call, independent agencies that can help verify whether the information their coaches and medical staff are giving them is correct. Olympic athletes deal with this situation on a daily basis. Ignorance is not only not an excuse, it's negligence as well.

As captain, he had a duty of care to those players he leads. That is what leadership is.

Are the betting agencies getting into this?? What are the odds if Watson loses his brownlow? I'll have a bit of that action!

I for one am very sceptical that, in this day and age, an athlete of any kind is so naive that they would allow somebody to pump a substance into their body without -

A: finding out what was in said substance,

B - finding out if and what are the side effects

        and finally

C : - if the drug was legal to take.

If they have not done their research "STUPIDY" and "IGNORANCE" is not a valid excuse.

        Throw the book at them.

As said in another post, pretty sad that the AFL has not come down hard on Eddie McGuire, or even more so, that he hasn't taken the chance himself to take some time off.

The AFL likes to beat its drum on big issues, but unless it walks the walk, people are going to ignore it

Another point is that WADA CAN appeal the verdict of ASADA.

Saw 360 tonight. Can't agree more KT31. The treatments, by his own admission, involved over 40 injections. The drug has been illegal since 2011, according to 360, but was taken by Watson in 2012. Surely he should have done a google on it?

And the AFL dont have the power to set the penalties.
Thanks T and T! Great read. Cotchin will get the brownlow by the sounds of it.

Right. That, or a simple phone csll would've told him straight away...

And people try and tell me footballers aren't just big and dumb.

I hope it goes down as an asterisk, not to second.

I hope that if Essendon players are rubbed out it doesn't include the off season! That would be ridiculous. It should be for an amount of games like Tippett.

I have a few Essendon supporting mates & all are very confident that their players will get off. They reckon some member from the bomberblitz forum who has inside knowledge & just about everything he comes out with is correct, swears that the players in their interviews were told by ASDA that they won't get punished for using AOD9604. They keep craping on about how everything thats been written is wrong & they can't wait for the truth to come out.
Their arrogance gives me the shits big time & is the reason why i hate them so much. I just can not see how on earth they could get off this!

Don't know for certain, but I'd hazard a guess that it was in an attempt to draw a lesser penalty...a damage control, of sorts.
