    I'd like to see that!

I doubt it though as this kind of appointment would seem to be a direct threat to McCartney. however if the current coach endorsed the appointment then he would be entitled to considerable respect.

I wouldn't have thought that as McCartney and Sando are pretty good mates.

I'd have thought it would be more media and fan innuendo rather than anything felt internally.

I think Bluey would very nervous at the moment. The board has called for a full review and Sando may not be unemployed for long.

He would be very well off financially for the next two years if he lands another job, assuming he got paid out of his contract.

I'm of the opposite opinion, McCartney needs help tactically on match days, Sando has made lots of quite large scale match day errors, I'd rather go down the opposite path of not being a people person but tactically brilliant. Laidley or Eade style if you will.

How are the teams Laidley and Eade working with going at present?
                TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Who is Laidley with? Eade is a football director and not involved with tactics, match day.

You're right on Eade, of course (though if he sits in the box you could guess he'd have some input into how things are planned for match day, though maybe not). Laidley was with the Blues in 2014 as midfield coach.

I find it funny posters call for people like Eade and Laidley to take a position and think things will just work out and match day magic will be the outcome. As MJP has said in another thread, the majority of work on match day is done during the week and coaching on game day has minimal impact during the run of play.

The other aspect is the senior coaches have final say anyway, so getting them to listen to and act upon the advice presents another challenge.

I wasn't sure where Laidley was, so thanks for that.

I believe unless there is some success, assistants need to be turned over every few years to give the coach fresh ideas from other clubs. I think we have too many ex Geelong people at the club. I would like to see some assistants that have been with Hawks, or Swans to give us their view.

                        Yep.

What is match day coaching anyway? "Move Murphy forward" and then lean back in your chair, cross your arms and grin smugly if it works?

Match day coaching is the ability to change things up when players are being beaten, or game plan is not working, positional changes etc. Can't stand the coach just sitting there and watching the team get flogged and doing nothing about it.

I can see why you have to ask as we have been struggling to show any form of it for a bit of time now.

I could see Sando as being the perfect replacement for Shannon Grant, given his experience as an assistant and head coach, but I can just see people screaming..."oh no not another one from Geelong".
