It's a juvenile act. I was told early on to never boo the opposition and I've pretty much stuck with that.

Ditto. I don't do the Mexican wave, but that's more a personal lesson or philosophy I was taught. But I like a bronks cheer as an emotional expression as a collective of people's opinions about a sports persons of umpires output.

But Selwood is booed on merit purely because he's white? Makes no sense.

Yep. Over analysis. The reverse... Do cheers of politicians in parliament come because of sporting attributes?

There is sport. There is opinion or politics. I don't see a cross over.

Apparently this is the reason Hawthorn fans have booed Adam Goodes all year. They still believe that he tried to end Josh Gibson's career.

I was sceptical about the Goodes booing excuse provided by the Hawks supporters in front of me (though it must be said they weren't participating). Seems other areas of the crowd were behaving poorly.
Erin has caused quiet a stir with her article:

Some really uncouth twitter posts by Hawks supporters.

I wonder what Dermie's opinion of Paul Dear is? Dear ended Peter Fosters career.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
