Is anyone else concerned about our current membership numbers ? Rose set an ambitious target last year of 30,000 internally although he did set an even higher benchmark of 32,000in the media but in the end we came up a bit short but still set a record.
This year we appear to be a couple of thousand behind where we were last year and I doubt we can catch it although Id love to be proven wrong.
The question we have never seemed to be able to answer is what is it that stops people from rejoining each year?
The Positives
~ We have an auto renewal option which makes things easy for the members
~ An online option that provides people with 24/7 access to sign up
~ A membership department which will assist with questions and completion of the forms etc
~ The family day provides people with the chance to sign up on a nice club day
On top of that we have Rose powering along with the redevelopment of the Whitten Oval which will ensure our long term survival in Victoria providing we can grow our membership base here.
My belief is that the AFL could not put pressure on us to move if we could settle in at a bit more that 31,000 members each year.
The Negatives
Interest rate rises must be stretching the families in the mortgage belts areas
Increasing costs to purchase memberships
Id love to know what reasons people have for not signing up but its disappointing that just about every year we are chasing our tails with this issue. Its not like it would be a surprise for anyone to hear how important memberships are for the clubs long term prospects.
One idea I heard someone talking about a while back was having guys like Darcy, Grant, Hawkins, Smith, Beasley and Wallis manning the phones for a couple of days chasing those who hadn't signed up over the last 2 years. It would be hard for a lot of people to say no to Granty or the Hawk I would have thought.
Does anyone else have any other membership ideas that the club might be able to explore or know of any reasons why people aren't good a signing up each year ?
