Yep, Bont played. Spotted everyone except Bob and Moz.

FWIW, Bont played for the white team - who were bettered by the grey/blue team.

So glad I got there signatures today. Was sitting up in the Whitten Stand for the intra club match closer to the admin building. Wasn't focused into so couldn't really give a report

            Re: Preseason Training 2017

I went on Saturday and ran a keen eye over proceedings on the field.

Those present, but not involved due to injury were Redders, Wally, Green and Tweedie. No sign of Roughy, Prudden or Dicko.

The scratch match was for 3 'quarters' of about 20 mins or so and some VFL players were used to assist with team numbers (including Jayden Foster).

Bont played for 2 'quarters' and was one of his teams better performers.

Some general observations (my thoughts only):
            1. draftees English, Lipinsky, Young and Mull-McHugh all played and their comparable performance would have also been in the same order (English was good around the ground but beaten easily by Campbell before he went off with what looked like an ankle (was in ice at end of game))
            2. Daniel, Dahlhaus, Macrae, Libba, Picks, Hunter and Dunks all got plenty of ball while Jong got more involved in the game than he did vs Melb in previous week.
            3. of the 3rd year players yet to establish themselves, Webb was by far the hardest worker (bottom of packs etc), while Bailey Dale had some nice touches as did my whipping boy Hamilton in the last half when he came on. Roarke Smith worked hard off the backline and i liked Cordy's game playing mainly in the back half.
            4. of the 2nd year players yet to establish themselves, Bailey Williams looked composed and Lynch had a good game as well (no doubt plating in JLT1 gave his confidence a boost). Kieran Collins had a quiet game, but I suspect he may have been nursed thru game (had his shoulder strapped). Marcus Adams seemed to appreciate this further hit out.
            5. Boyd more effective in ruck duels than around the ground marking and Stringer was everywhere (back, starting mid, fwd). Still to hit any form similar to 2015. Cloke and Crameri had solid games - I think Cloke is going to be good for us - he works up and down the ground and is a good field kick.
            6. Moz, Boyd, Wood, Biggs and Murphy played their HB roles with reliable ease with Murph getting a much better run this week.
            7. JJ showed why he is the reigning Norm Smith medallist - BOG in my opinion
            8. McLean, Clay Smith and Honeychurch didn't hurt their reputations - I think they would all be vying with Dickson for the two small HF roles for round 1
            9. Suckling played ok - showed no signs of any injury
            10. Liked Fletch's game - he was being used a number of times as the outlet kick from the full back line and took some good defensive contested marks

Anyone know where Dickson is at? I was surprised he wasn't at the ground least of all playing.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

Another report from the day was a lot more bullish on English

English affected nearly every tap during ruck contests against BTC. His ruck duels against Boyd were much harder as Boyd used his weight really well against him, putting him off balance. Timmy looks like he's filled out a little, or at least he has toned up, looked as though he has some form of muscle on his frame now. One play from a centre bounce he tapped it to his advantage, collected and cleared the ball in a freakishly natural way. Another play on the wing, he contested a mark and it spilled behind him, he spun and collected below his knees with one hand and launched it into the forward fifty off 2 steps. One last play that I just wowed at was after an uncontested mark on the defensive 50 arc. He took a moment surveying the ground before launching a huge kick to the opposite wing hitting Williams who had lost his defender, square on the chest. He seriously looks like something special. I just hope we manage his weight really well and get a great balance between his natural agility while developing his core strength.
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

I like the sound of that.

I might Check YouTube for some footage of the match.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Sounds like Fletch might thrive this year - this is his first proper pre-season isn't it?
He's always been a good field kick although in the prelim it was noticeable he took too long to decide what to do with it.
