From what I can see is that at the end of Feb 2017 (28.02) we had 35,362 members so we are very close to the mark.
If we went back to the end of Feb 2016 we had just over 26,000 members

In the next 2 weeks we need to sign up about 1,000 members to be on last years pace so we might be a touch behind but very competitive.

For what it's worth at the end of March 2017 we had 39,276 members.

Same time last year we were around 100 more, so bang on last year at this stage.

Not a bad sign but need to have a good year to keep maintaining it at the current level. The leaner years is where we need our members the most.

When I signed up as a Dogs member:

          2013 - lean year
          2014 - lean year
2015 - good year back to finals
2016 - PREMIERS!! Best ever year
          2017 - dissapointing lean year
2018 - hopefully back to 2 years ago

As a Dogs supporter before becoming a member

Early to mid 2000s - lean
Mid to late 2000s very good making 3 prelims with a lean year in 2007
Early 2010s - mostly lean apart from 2010

I can't remember how we went in 1977 the year I joined. We made the finals the year before but I think 1977 was a pretty mediocre year. We beat Essendon by 100 points at windy hill though, that had me walking around on the balls of my feet for a couple of weeks. The ground was packed and I was just a little kid and couldn't see a thing. I remember one of my cousins picking me up and depositing me on the roof of the pie stand with a bunch of other kids. It was funny because now that I look back I realise we were at the wrong end, we were in amongst the Essendon members alongside the Alan Hird stand (which is a place you don't want to be) and not at the scoreboard end (which if you had to go to windy hill was the best place to be)
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

That would have been a great day TD beating our fierce local rival on their turf.

It was indeed, just the day you'd want to be in amongst the Essendon members. I think that I've figured out why we were at that end. Mum said that my cousins Steve, Geoffrey and Bear took me and Steve, Geoffrey and Bear would rather have a fight than a feed so they would have taken up position looking for trouble-And them putting me up on the pie stand roof sort of makes sense now, they didn't want to have to explain to my mum how I ended up looking like I'd been dragged backwards through a rose bush.

You would expect a drop off after last year , so we need to push two wins in the JLT, our first win was really good and would have given fence sitters something to think about, if we can smash Collingwood it will make a few of these supporters buy membership , I don't rate the pies at all and I don't think many do so a close win will not do the job.

I was there that day too Td standing on the wing. From what I remember we were behind at quarter time too. We kicked a swag of goals in the last. KT kicked about 6 goals or so but that last quarter it just rained goals. One of the best wins I have seen.

                          Essendon 13.11 (89) Footscray 29.15 (189) Windy Hill 19,399 7 May 1977

We had 8 multiple goal kickers! KT led the pack with 5, Jennings G. and Morrison I. got 4 each, Dunstan, Edmond, Low and Huppatz (this is a seriously good team we put on the field) got 3 each and Stephen Power got 2, Stoneham and Dempsey got 1 each. We had our kicking boots on for sure, we kicked 5 in the first, 7 in the second, 6 in the third and 11 in the last!

We had 3 Brownlow medalists playing for us-Dempsey, Quinlan and Templeton.

Will be interesting to see if we have an increase or a decline.
We have had 5 straight years of increased membership - and are up 17,500 members on the 2012 figure...so remains to be seen whether it is sustainable. But we had an increased membership following each of the McCartney coached seasons, so are supporters aren't particularly 'fair weather' in terms of signing up to be members. I suspect we will be around the same mark in 2018 as last years 47-odd thousand.

Looking back at that era there sure were a lot of high scoring games. The umpiring though - 46 frees to 37 in this match - must have been constant whistles and frustrating to watch?

If people base their decision to buy a membership on the basis of practice matches they are morons.
