I think at one point it would be rated as a sure C but has definitely moved more to a B
Always been a big Bevo fan and backer I think he deserves to still be in the job as of right now. But this season will definitely tell the tale. If it goes anywhere near how the last 3 seasons have gone there needs to be change and that’s where it starts I guess as the list and coaching department has already had a lot of change for mostly the same result. The inconsistency can’t continue.

I'll lean on the be B to C with a foot pressing on C.
I love Bevo as a coach and getting to finals nudges him over the next best in Eade. I would like to see him get all the support he needs and take away Sheedy's coaching record and take something away from the Bummers.
Coaching is a blend of two worlds with the skill to direct and the players to do the job if either one is lacking the job becomes so much harder. In 2016 we hit that blend and everything fell in place and it was almost there in 2021 and I wonder if we had Morris and Boyd still playing good footy and not retired would there have been a different outcome.
If the club decided to move Bevo on I won't whine about it and I would get behind the next bloke because time stands still for no one and it is all about the club and not the personnel in it.
If Bevo did move on and went to coach elsewhere it would be that record that would more define him as a coach unless he stays and gives us another 5 flags.

Stringer he handled somewhat poorly only in that he devalued him publicly when we weren't aware of the situation, and was probably complicit in not making Jake face any consequences and letting the situation deteriote to how it did. Not that any of Essendons many coaches have been able to fix him (and indeed have gotten rid of him as well). But Jakes downfall can hardly be attributed to Bevo.

Dalhaus just lost that edge, and i guess the suspicion is that he found some distractions and lost some motovation. Bevo's fault, I don't know, but it wasn't from playing him out of position or anything like that.

Dunkley was amazing the entire time with Bevo, and his issues with the club seem more to do with playing group attitudes and approaches and not being stuck behind Bont/Macrae/Libba/Treloar in the pecking order than the odd ruck contest he got sent to. Plus theres the whole needing to live near his girlfriends family thing, and a spicy hot pocket promo deal.

Hunter seems like he was always going to struggle at some point, I'm not sure what Bevo is at fault for with him even hypothetically.

Roughead Bevo failed to find a continuing role for, and moved for greener pastures. Not sure that was the wrong decision, even his time at Collingwood, while good, didn't burn us badly or anything.

Boyd especially I don't think was Bevo's fault at all (I admittedly have not read his book so maybe he mentions it there). Seems he struggled for a few reasons but not sure the coach relationship and how he was used was one.
Yep, agree. Love our hate Bevo, I am not sure those things are on him.
You could equally argue Boyd lasted as long, as he did, to win the Dogs a flag (which he did) because of Bevo (I have no idea, just speculating)
I doubt loosing Roughhead, Hunter or dallhaus cost us much at all at those stages of their career.
Dunks, I don't know, but if a coach is pleasing everyone equally at all times, they are probably doing something wrong. Some of the list have to be unhappy with the pecking order.

Can absolutely coach well. I think we've both under achieved and over achieved under him.

I'd like him to experiment less early in the season. We won 11 from 14 at the back end of last season I sort of want to see similar tactics and personnel employed until it stops working this year. I feel like he tries to reinvent the wheel a bit too much particuarly early in the season.

This has been my main criticism of him since about 2018

I used to share a similar thought process until I heard Marc Webb and then Brendan Lade talk about Bevo and his tactics etc at the East West Club functions.
Do a bit of a search because there are a a couple of detailed reports of the nights. If anyone is living out in the Eastern Suburbs I can recommend that being a member is well worth it.
Anyhoo, both have confirmed that Bevo is open to suggestions but they have to be researched and fact based to really grab his attention.
Then there are the training sessions where positional moves and new tactics are employed before they are implemented in games.
The regular track watchers have seen moves like Richards into the midfield group and English trying out different ruck set-ups etc before it's implemented on game day.
There was even JOD trying to do some defensive forward work the week into our game against Brisbane where he spent the better part of the game trying to negate Harris Andrews

Bevo's not the magnet thrower that many people think and I've frequently called out those Fantasy Footy Flat Earthers for the way the blame Bevo for a players poor form or a position move.
