    Improving our goal kicking accuracy

Thought I’d start a new thread about this. It is a very important aspect of the game and can be the difference in winning and losing big finals and premierships. You can have the rest of the game down pat but if this is not in order it can cost you.

Can this be changed in players who have the yips or is it more just an innate trait. Marra was great last season in that he marked it so well but a lot of times just didn’t kick it well in front of goal. If he changes this aspect he’ll be an even better player.

Yep Twodogs was very strong in this area. He would be great for this role at the club

Didn't seem as though Johno had much of an effect last year. Maybe it will just take some time with him or perhaps we need another specialist.

I thought we saw some moderate improvement across the group last year, however the usual suspects are still unreliable and flakey and you just know who will miss what we as supporters call simple shots.

Technique is one component however I feel the mental side is what lets a number of our players down more than technique.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

There was definite improvement last year, I thought Naughton was more reliable than previous years, Marra has quite a laconic style that let's him down I think, he leans back on the ball.
I would have loved for the Dogs to go out and hire a specialist fwd coach to deal with this over the years, there is plenty of retired players who could help.
I know Matty Lloyd offered to help Max King a few years ago, no reason the Dogs couldn't try and get him in even a few times during preseason to work with our key fwds.

              I'll keep this real simple.
Draft better kicks, and play blokes forward of the centre who can kick.

Hire a full time specialist coach

Recruit the best available and hire them on a full time basis. You simply can't get away with someone being there once a fortnight. For the rest of the fortnight either no one is reinforcing the message or others are offering differing opinions etc

Given its importance it just has to be a full time position.

I think it where they are having shots from. Naughton, Jamarra and Bont seem to be in the left forward pocket when having set shots. Wrong side for left footers. Dont know why they constantly lead to the wrong side. Surely thats strategy not skill that needs to be addressed.

Yeah how do we best improve the mental side with some players who kick for goal in those pressure situations so they are much more confident.

I haven't bothered to look at stats but Naughton seemed much improved last year. Jamarra is a worry however

I was talking to someone today who noted how much Naughton improved last year and even in limited goal kicking today looked good again. Perhaps Brad Johnson has being doing some work with him.

I don't recall any mentions of Johnno being at training again this year. Do we think he is employed again for 2025?

I haven't seen him but he seemed to mention it the other day.

Wonder what commitments he has? From memory he started late last season also.
More of an In Bruges guy?
