    Community Game: Quick Hits

Going just off the watch - haven't looked at stats

    Very Good
    Lobb, Davidson, Naughton, Darcy, McNeil

    Solid
JOD, Cleary, Bramble, Liber, Harmes, Duryea

    Average
Freijah, Dolan, Gallagher, Williams, English, Sanders, Kennedy, Croft, Jones,

    What was that??
    Poulter, Garcia

    Incomplete:
    VDM

Probably overly harsh on a couple but trying not to over-rate the kids for showing a bit of promise whilst at the same time under-rating vets for just taking care of business.

My personal highlight was actually JOD who I thought looked pretty rock steady and played a good one-v-one game...not sure if he's ready for Larkey but who else have we got.

I know Cleary gets a hard time but it seems to me each time he plays he does his job - that probs points to average vs solid (where I put him) but when expectations are low...
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

    Thanks Mike

A lot look at stats to decide. i was at the ground.

Cleary absolutely surprised me as I advocated just paying him out and delisting. On that effort he is worth persevering with and maybe just needs opportunity to do his thing.

I also liked Arty a lot as someone else who I might have delisted. This was as good as I have ever seen him play.

Davidson also looks the goods and while he didn't stick all his tackles he certainly brought some pressure at times and there was one terrific effort at half back when he brought his opponent to ground.
He also kept the ball moving forward when he got it.

Garcia tried to do too much instead of taking the first option and got caught a few times.

Poulter is just not up to it.

I would rate Freijah, Williams and English higher. Possibly Kennedy too. Probably drop Bramble and Harmes down a level but I'm splitting hairs, they were all fine.

Freijah had 27 but I get the rating, He reminds me a lot of Ryan Hargrave including the tendency to kick long and hope for the best at times (not rushed hacks, just choosing to go down the line when there aren't clear better options)

I think he's set to be a good-very good player with a long career but maybe not a superstar half back like some might hope/hype.

I reckon you've missed a bit with Libba. I thought Freijah, Williams and then Kennedy were a bit better than how MJP rated them
I'd be interested in a Naughton rating and I'd have him in the average category.

18 kicks, 9 marks and 3.2 - I would rate him almost BOG

What made you rate his game only average? I thought his start to the game was poor but was a good/very good contributor at other times and probably should've kicked 5.

I thought Freijah was really good, interested to hear why you only had him as average.

Yep agree on Freijah HD. Very good game. Has slotted in so well in that half back line.

I'm in the camp that Naughton was one of the bests from that game.

Average = did his job. It isn't a bad rating.

I guess I didn't really notice him moving the needle with his foot skills or any great one-on-one/help defensive efforts...I just thought he was fine.

No issues or complaints - it's OK just to play a good ordinary game.

Watching I felt Kennedy gave away a few dumb / careless free-kicks and wasn't always clean. He was fine.
Williams was Williams I spose but lacked that dash on the day and his long kicking to a target was absent - again, he was fine.
English was fine. Did his job.

Bramble actually RAN at Hawthorn and really turned defense into attack - took the game on and took some chances ball in hand.
Harmes challenged himself to work to the outlet and defend - I have seen him do some finishing in RWB but when he was at his best at Melbourne he was a heart and soul mid who covered for the others...watching yesterday I saw that in his game and wondered if maybe he's a bit more accepting of his role?

What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I didn’t think Garcia was as bad as most are making out. Maybe I missed it. It was his usual game in many ways with a highlight being his nice kick inside F50 in the (was it 1st?).
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

There were two peak Garcia moments in the second quarter where he had the option to handball and release a teammate, but held the ball a few extra steps and ran into trouble. It is such a consistent part of his game.

That is a decision making issue which he needs to rectify.
