The Moment - Round One vs North Melbourne

The moment; the best, most courageous moment that caught your eye in this evening's game against North Melbourne.
Was it the moment that told you 'we've got this' or 'we lost this one right here'? Or was it the moment that you went 'wow....that is crazy courage'

Was it a collection of moments or perhaps one you felt had greater significance outside of the actual game's result?.. Or maybe it was a downright gobshite game, with little to crow about...but you know, you're still down to get your post count up

There were loads of moments tonight. For me, Bevo's decision to come downstairs with some clear instructions to get the group together and focus. He's seen this numerous times with Wallis, Redpath, and Clay Smith where the team's emotional state post injury incident has seen other times capitalise and run over us. This game doesn't allow for a 10% drop in you're mental awareness and focus for a sutained time; opposition will shred you like they're playing Auskickers.

So as for an on-field one, there was a nice mark deep in defense by Davidson, where he'd transitioned all the way from the forward line and back. Just willful, unrelenting gut running, in his first league game, in the 4th qtr when we were both undermanned going into the game, and then furthermore copped injuries during the game and almost no interchange rotations left. He didn't set the game alight, but barring injuries this young man should mark himself down for all 22 regular season games this year.
      Well done.

Kennedys two kicks into f50 in the last for crucial goals, one off the ground and the other when he wheeled onto his left.

        Very happy with his game.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Kennedy stepping up. Bont out, Treloar out, Richards the main focus of opposition attention, Libba doing his level best but needing a sidekick. Kennedy quietly stepped in and played the game we desperately needed. We were outmanned by North's midfield but he was the one we could rely on to deliver inside 50.

Just before that you could see Dolan really labour to try and pressure a North player on the wing/ our HFF. It really demonstrated the conditioning a guy like Davidson has as a mature age recruit.

I think it was Harmes who kicked a goal after a lean patch that was a classic settler in a moment where we’ve historically worked hard for no reward as the opposition ramps up the pressure, get a chance, miss and crumble from there.

So Harmes nailed the Moment, for mine at least.

First goal of the last, gave us the momentum back and we rode the wave home.

I think the move of Freijah into the centre bounces for the last qtr was big. Clearances were an issue all night.

The moment Cleary went down was the first time I was confident we had the game won. But that's a sad moment I don't really want to think about.

So let's go with McNeil's second goal, I'm starting to believe Granty's hype for him now. Love that he's got the beginnings of a mullet this season too.

7 minutes into the last quarter, we had kicked 3 goals to zip, extending the lead to 25, and Norf had only had one clearance (an area they had been smashing us in). A lot of guys stood up to start the quarter with the game on the line - Freijah, Kennedy, Naughton, Libba, Ed, Dale. So the start of the last quarter is my moment.

The moment Cleary went down was actually when I was most worried. We have collapsed after similar devastating injuries before.

This for me also and Freijah being involved in getting from the middle and then getting it on the receive at 50. Great to see hi nail the shot as well.

I thought it was Kennedy wheeling around Corr and putting it on Naughton's chest with his left foot. I wasn't a fan of getting Kennedy but that was the benefit of a mature and experienced AFL footballer. He was great.

I'll take Laith threading the eye of the needle in the first quarter.

North had just burst from one end of the ground to the other to setup a Pagan's paddock for Larkey, but he misses the dribbler that would have levelled the scores. We woosh it back up our end without the Roos touching the footy and Laith slots it. Two goal turnaround.

Sometimes we can go into our shells a bit after an opposition fast play. That just showed that we were ready to counterpunch and take the game on.

Loved his game great acquisition to the club. I was also pretty happy with Harmes in the first half. I thought Gaggs coughed it up a few times that we need him to improve on.
