I finally see what Vanders can do well and why he is played every week. Without wishing to concentrate on the negative, especially after a nice positive, can someone explain Gallagher's role please? He is quick, but so is Usain Bolt. He kicks into the man more than any other player in the comp. Doesn't get it enough for mine. What am I missing?
Gallagher. What the.....

I think there is something there with Gallagher. Ultra pro on and off field, great pace and strength, as you guys have alluded to it's the disposal that is the issue right now. Can't turn the ball over inside 50 or streaming through the middle. Feel like he will get there and looks promising for a third year player.Comment

I'll buck the trend about Gallagher just a bit. I believe he might start to improve now that we have settled him down into a more defined position.
There is a lot he needs to work on but if he improves his game day awareness we will start to see some more consistent games from him.
He is filling in with the role we had for JJ so it was a bit of a last minute move.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"👍 4Comment

His composure is the issue for mine. He doesn't lack effort or prep. However he seems overawed by the situations at times. As with posters above I believe it will click for him soon enough, perhaps not soon enough for us. I reckon this block of games with the big key outs can help him if he can harness the opportunity of being relied on in a more even spread. Some kids, like Arty and McNeil have all or most of the traits and skills but that confidence to execute smoothly under pressure is a learned practise, not an inherit skill. Also some have it but it doesn't translate to the big time straight away. I don't think we can underestimate how adrenalin, expectations and the desire to perform and prove yourself can overwhelm the player when they are trying so hard, it can really fritz the biomechanical flow and the space between the ears overrides the muscle memory. I reckon he needs coaching on that stuff, either directly or indirectly. He's not the greatest kick but I'm sure he could be much more proficient if the schism between intent and execution meets up.👍 1Comment

I'm not worried about Gallagher at all. He's 21 and was pick 39 he's not going to come in and performed like a top 3 pick. I also don't think 21 games is a huge investment in game time. Who else would we play? Perhaps Cleary but they obviously have different roles. Gallagher is young depth really at this stage. With JJ, Treloar and Bont in the team he gets edged out.
I'm still not 100% sure what Gallagher's role is, like others here, but he does have good physical attributes and he is aggressive and likes to take the game on. Plenty to work with.
After all, we've waited nearly 70 games for LVM's last two games. But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.👍 3Comment

Gallagher appears to have very little evasive skill.he runs in straight lines which allows his opponent to read it quite well.this is why he kicks into oncoming traffic so often. Also holds onto ball too long which is probably under instruction to take chances. Definite has ability but wants to eradicate the turnovers to stop becoming a weekly whipping boy.Comment

21-games.
I mean, I know it's a '20-game' rule but not sure what everyone wants. He's a young role player...his effort is pretty good, his impact isn't...as long as the former stays the latter will improve...I get the angst because he certainly seemed to be gifted a few games last year his performances didn't warrant but I just take that to mean: "He's trying to do what we ask, vs others who are doing their own thing!".What should I tell her? She's going to ask.Comment

I agree. He reminds me of Matt Boyd. For years Matt butchered the ball gave gave us his all. I thought today against the pies was finals like pressure and he was always going to make a few mistakes.
I would like him to be playing in the back 6 with Jones back. That in itself takes pressure awayBB.
Looking forward - Naughton, Darcy and JUH. It will be the envy of everyone.Comment

If we are going to play him in the backline then he cannot be the short kick out in the pocket. It is heart in mouth when he gets it because of his decision making - that can be covered a bit on half-forward, but much harder in a back pocket.
There were a few handball chains tonight which glaringly hit a brick wall when they reached Gags, who was a deer in headlights for most of his possessions.
I'm comfortable with him getting games, but the coaches have to cop the fact that he will give up 2-3 scores through direct turnovers/errors. I'd prefer he's learning his back pocket craft in the VFL personally, but with our personnel crisis that's not an option at the moment.👍 1Comment

The question was answered tonight. No sky rockets, no super-star arrival with a banner headlines, just a good, solid game. But sometimes that's how it is, a player finally gets it. I thought Gallagher "got it" tonight... I thought he played well and found a place in the team.👍 3Comment
