Four Games in, 2-2 where are we?

So far, without so many of our main contributors we have broken even, but have we? And where do we sit in the scheme of things.

We have two wins, both against teams who have yet to post a win. But against two of the expected finalists, we have given a good account of ourselves but couldn't quite claim the chocolates.

So, is our glass half full or half empty?

I wish we had some of our better players closer to a return but 3 and 3 would be a reasonable position for us.

Has to be half full. Bont and Adz out of the midfield. Any other team with the equivalent of those two out would cripple. Throw in Flea and the distraction of Jamarra as well and I think we are one win above par to what I hoped for. Still work to do but lots of good signs from the first month.

2-2 is not a good start, but with the injury lens, is not a catastrophic one. Top 4 rests on only dropping between 6 and 8 games for the season. So the margin for error has tightened up already.

Really, on the performances offered up and the vibe check, 3-1 would have been a more fair outcome at this point and we'd be really licking our lips at the return of some quality. Instead, we are probably really wanting them to come in and push us in front of the ledger before things get away from us.

            Genuine question.

Is top 4 a reasonable expectation for season 2025 given the injuries we have sustained?

It's worth asking, but I'm not the person to ask for reasonable anything here . Goes against my philosophy on being a fan, which is an inherently unreasonable position.

In my role as a coach (in a different sport) at shit kicker community level, I'm a believer in high expectations underpinned by high levels of support. I'd be looking at the injury list, accept that injuries/player availability are just a part of the game that need to be managed. Find a way. With that in mind, it'd just be a pragmatic view. Expectations are meaningless. Its just the reality that more often than not, if you want to finish top 4 (and every club should) you need a record that has fewer than 8 losses come the end of the regular season. 2-2 doesn't suggest we can't achieve it, just that the degree of difficulty has gone up a notch.

Both games that we've lost, we were still in with a chance halfway through the last quarter. If that's the worst we do all season, and given we've got both Bont and Treloar out atm it may well be, then I'd be pretty happy. Half full for sure.
