Always Right Match Committee R11 vs Geelong 2025

Welcome to the Always Right Match Committee Thread. The Match Committee threads has been named after long time WOOF member Always Right who tragically passed away in March 2018.

If you were on the Western Bulldogs match committee, what changes would you make after our Round Ten match against Essendon for our Round Eleven match against Geelong at Geelong on Thursday.

For those new to these threads, please give a brief explanation for your changes ... this would add a lot of value to the discussion.

Shame for Arty, he started really hot too. Anyone know what he did? How long is he looking at?

Obviously wouldn’t change much after that c keen to get Buss in but no real need to against Neale, Cameron & Henry we can easily cover that and the extra run is nice.

Bramble wasn’t great when he came in I’d probably give him a spell in the 2s to find some form. Jacques deserves a shot he’s been really good consistently.

        Arty for Dolan (probably sub)
        Bramble for Jacques

        Lets keep it rolling

Was it a Hammy for Artie?

Do we need Buss next week? Do Geelong have many talls up front.

Gardner is playing some really good footy. Wonder if we be prepared to throw Gardner in and play Lobb forward to keep Stewart a bit more accountable (expecting Stewart to be back).

              Jones out

              In either Dolan or Gallagher

I like to keep a bit of leg speed in the team, and I'm not sold on Baker

Geelong are really tall in defence with DeKoning, O’Sullivan and Henry all strong in the air.

I’m concerned that if we don’t throw Lobb forward, like we did against GWS, who also had 3 good/very good tall defenders we are going to struggle to halt their ability to intercept which they did with ease against Port.

So I’d be looking to add in Buss or Gardner.

Hopefully the rest of the team pull up well with the 5 day break ahead… Geelong have the same 5 day break coming too with the interstate factor included so we’re not at a disadvantage.

                  Out: Arty, Bramble
                  In: Baker, Buss

Agree with Mantis - I still like the third tall defender because it gives us flexibility to move Lobb around. Naughton's form isn't there right now and in a game where territory is more even than last night, we are going to need better aerial representation ahead of the footy than what we're getting.

Baker to start as sub to inject more run if needed. I think he's underrated in that utility role - can play in all three parts of the ground, is quick and is hard as a cat's head. Bramble's foot skills let him down too often and Cleary/JJ are edging him out of the side.

Not sure didn’t see from where I was sitting just saw him limping off.

I don’t think we need him for defence only Neale & Cameron really, and you can send a medium to Cameron up the ground. But Mantis makes a good point they’re pretty tall in defence and their whole game is based around intercept marks so I agree actually, Buss should come in as I suspect we may need to rotate some talls forward.

Stewart will play, Guthrie, SDK, O’Sullivan, Henry they’re seriously strong in the air

Surely one of Busslinger, Coffield or Gardiner comes in this week?
We've done exceptionally well with a smaller line-up but it's going to bite us at some stage.

We are well aware of how our Dogs treated the home Cats last year, like dogs should treat cats.
Lobb is Cameron's nightmare opponent, equally athletic and knows him well.
This matchup really gives us an edge versus home Cats.

3 possessions. No kicks, 1 was a Clanger. 7m gained.

If that’s a hot start, I wouldn’t want to be around for an ‘Average’ one!

Everyone has shortcomings and areas for improvement, but of all our ‘fringe’ players we seem the most willing to overlook his and accentuate any positives. Last night I recall one really positive involvement on the half back line…one where he should have gone but didn’t…and then he was done.

Why do we want it so bad for Arty?

What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Has anyone wanted to win a H&A game more than this one?
