Always Right Match Committee R13 vs Hawthorn 2025

Welcome to the Always Right Match Committee Thread. The Match Committee threads has been named after long time WOOF member Always Right who tragically passed away in March 2018.

If you were on the Western Bulldogs match committee, what changes would you make after our Round Eleven match against Geelong (and the Round 12 Bye) for our Round Thirteen match against Hawthorn at Marvel on Thursday.

For those new to these threads, please give a brief explanation for your changes ... this would add a lot of value to the discussion.

Can’t have Baker, Duryea and Bramble in the same team.
Cleary might need a step back to get the message that you can’t just but her the footy when you play one of the most important roles on the field.

Our HB situation was a real weakness tonight. If there’s an opportunity to tweak it, we should. Maybe Buss and we go a bit taller down there.

Duryae looked poor playing as a forward. He has to play back or not at all IMO

So against the hawks I would tweak the backline

          Out - Duryae and Baker
          In - jones and Treloar
          BB.

Looking forward - Naughton, Darcy and JUH. It will be the envy of everyone.

Agree with that. If Darcy is ready, I’d bring him in, probably for Bramble.

                  Cleary isn't under pressure?

He lost all of his credits last night... it was a horrible performance form him.

                    In: Busslinger, Treloar, Dolan
Out: Duryea, McNeil, Bramble (JJ to sub)

Bramble a bit unlucky but I don't think we should discard Cleary after one poor showing in an otherwise good year. JJ to sub as I think he could be pretty handy in that role coming on and giving us some dash. Freijah shifts to half back in that running defender spot.

I'd rather play the upside of Dolan than McNeil given Laith and West are pretty mature in those small forward slots.

Busslinger in to free up Lobb as an interceptor and allow us to send him forward.

I agree, he should be under some pressure, however he is also an age and experience where, what is he going to learn in the VFL that prepares him for big big-pressure games? If you drop him, then he only comes back due to injuries, and you are looking for the next one can that stand up in big games. Or keep picking him, and let him fail again, or start to succeed in these types of games.

Cleary is not on his own here either, team selection will be very interesting. Can McNeil be relied upon in big moments? He is in the best 25 players on the list, for most games, what is Duyrea going to improve in the VFL from here, stick with him, or drop him for good?

I know Buss has his fans, however given the pressure and turnovers, anyone thinking Buss would not have butchered his share last night are kidding. He has at least 2 every VFL game.
Not to mention how exposed our key backs were, from the turnovers, Buss would have been annihilated last night.

He had a shocker but he has been first choice 18 since round one. We need to back him in and find out if he can handle the heat in the kitchen or not.

Anyone that played like Cleary did last night shouldn’t keep their spot. At least 4 or 5 turnovers. What else we got?

So we can’t replace Cleary off the worst game EVER because Buss might have been bad against a team he won’t be playing?

Baker tried hard but man he just can’t do anything well or right.

                              In: Buss, Treloar
                              Out: Baker, Cleary
