I think Garcia will probably need a good 3-4 VFL games and be banging down the door for selection, but I expect to see him at AFL level later this year. Will be a swap for Vanders or McNeil when they cop a knock later, when fit and in form Garcia is a pretty damn good player.
You make a fair argument and I can 'sorta' see it (pretty sure you had Cleary as sub btw) but I still think that playing someone - and say what you will about Garcia, he is FAR from entrenched in the team - before they are ready is essentially setting them up to fail. It's like giving Poulter one game in Darwin and expecting him to play well...I mean, it could happen but it's HIGHLY unlikely he can do it. I mean, Adam Treloar can roll around and get 30 off zero base in Ballarat...but he's Adam Freaking Treloar and finds the footy for FUN. It's not as easy for the rest of the planet!!
So - reasoning I accept. I still think it's a terrible idea.
Geez I’d love Gardy to show marking, intercepting & confidence he has shown in vfl this year through to seniors. Would be great to have a reliable tall one on one back to partner Lobb & O’Donnell. Hoping Buss improves whatever mc need for him to play seniors soon too. Great for us to have serious competition for spots with Coff & Jones & Buss in VFL.
Josie :)
Our day will come
And we'll have everything.
We'll share the joy
Just like '54 again.
It looks like JJ will miss along with Baker and Duryea.
Treloar, Gardner and Dolan coming in.
If that holds true, how will the balance of the side look?
I think in that case we'd be going back to a pre Darwin blueprint-ish.
Gardner at FB with JOD and Cleary. Bramble takes JJ's role with Freijah rotating from HB flank to wing.
Treloar goes mid but rotates fwd as the mids have been doing in cycles as appropriate quite effectively.
I'd like to see Dolan start because his zip, sharpness and decision making suits the quick and smart style needed if the Hawks get on song. I really don't know who comes out for him though. McNeil plays well against Hawthorn but he's a very effective sub......
Truck might end up back at HB for quite a bit. Harmes goes wing. The magnets might get a real workout.
Ideally JJ makes a full recovery and we have halfback run and composure.
Last game the turnovers were dreadful and again inaccuracy from easy shots were the difference, for mine.
Not being at the ballon animal shaped Geelong ground will help.
Hawthorn will be smarting and stinging, we have to take possession and that means clean, deliberate, low risk passages to set up dominance and dictate terms.
Maybe we see Bont take spells at HB as well as mid and fwd?
I'm confident of clearances from the centre bounce. English v Meek . We were too short down back v the Cats and that created so much pressure and it snowballed and our execution plummeted. That was with talls like Cameron, Neale, and Blicavs exploited it too. That said Lobb was outplayed by Stengle so flexibility with matchup switches will be fun. Who stifles Watson and Ginni?
I expect the MC will be aware of this and the two Coaches boxes will be primed for counter strategies.
I'm very much looking forward to this game. I wish I could be at the ground. Both of us have much to prove so the level of contest will likely be intense. Hopefully we'll outlast them and have them knackered by the end of the third quarter.
Wow, I had a lot more thoughts than I anticipated. Thankyou for reading my essay.
Nick Watson is the latest Hawk out of tomorrow night’s crunch clash against the Western Bulldogs.
Missed main training yesterday through illness and hasn’t been able to recover in time.
Good news

Welcome to the Always Right Match Committee Thread. The Match Committee threads has been named after long time WOOF member Always Right who tragically passed away in March 2018.
If you were on the Western Bulldogs match committee, what changes would you make after our Round Eleven match against Geelong (and the Round 12 Bye)
Definitely more balance with another tall in defence. Gives us the ability to manipulate match ups better and provide more intercepting by freeing one of JOD or Lobb up.
Given the Hawks outs and ins, we should go in very confident.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.
Wrapped to see Gardy back. Ultimate professional. Hopefully goes ok and gets at least a couple of games.
Unlucky for JJ. Have been loving his pace.
Good to see Coffield in the emergencies. Has endured a horror run with injuries.
