Bankers & Anchors: Gather Round, 2025 vs Brisbane

This is the Gather Round 2025 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once today's game against Brisbane has concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer

      1. West really showed something today, although he died a bit in the second half
      2. Tim showed something in the ruck and was pretty good around the ground - only one bad error
      3. Sanders also a good first half but needs to keep it up for 4 quarters.

      Anchors

      1. Score review system is rubbish
      2. Bevo was right, HTB- umpires no idea
      3. Dissapointing fade out in second half - easy goals missed we should have put them away

        1. Congrats Cooper Hynes on his debut
        2. Sanders, there is class to what he does, and I think, he was so good for 2 quarters, he ran out puff.
        3. Riley West, we needed another winner forward of the ball, and West provided it.

        Anchors

        1. Cooper Hynes Debut (Was it worse than Charlie Clarke?)
        2. Too many developing players that can't keep showing up. Lions good enough to keep asking questions. Ran out of puff. No Harmes and VDM, on top of who else is already missing, was just a bridge too far against a team with soooo much depth.
        3. The non-Darcy forward minutes, on paper, it looks like Andrew's had a great game. He dominated when Darcy was not forward, and got smashed when he was

          Bankers:

Richards - just get him the ball. Richards being involved = we score.
Sandars - relieved to see him really progressing
Darcy - star. 20 contested marks so far this season. Next best in the league is 15 and then everyone else is 11 or below. Monster.

          Anhors:

Debuting Hynes. Wasn't ready, and tipped us even further into the 'too much inexperience' category.
Freijah - his missed chances were very costly, seems to be starting to struggle the last few weeks.
The "Not 15" calls over and over.....2 of them ended up costing us goals. Holding the ball has disappeared and now they're obsessed with not 15..... but if you are playing on from a kick in, run as far as you like - different scale of measurement.

Totally agree, hardly saw a less than 15 paid in the game last night but must have been a dozen against us the day before and it seems that this rule is only enforced in defensive 50. A couple of times Zorko ran so far out of the square without bouncing that I thought Gout Gout or whatever his name is was running for Silver.

Darcy – who would've thought that he would've had a fantastic absorbing contest against a top three fullback? I am amazed at his progress.

Sanders – coming along wel now.

First half ball movement and confidence

              Anchors

So many unforced errors, and how can we **** up so many kick ins?

              Soft, broken tackles.

While our overall accuracy was good, some of the easy goals missed at turning points of the game were unforgivable

The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

                - Darcy. I didn't see this level coming. As a junior he was highly rated, but potentially the best player in the game at 21 ? Nope. Amazing contest with one of the best in Andrews.

                - English. His best game for the season. He always pushes back, this week he got to the right spots at the right times. His ruck work is improving I think this season. Building nicely into the season.

                - McNeil's left foot. Bank it !

                Anchors

                - inability to retain possession when the momentum swings. Drives me spare. Why can't we just work it around a bit and take the sting out of the opposition.

                - Five day break coming back from Perth. Even Hip(wood)ster doofus mentioned it post match.

                - Tactics. I think a run with on Neale and tighter checking on their slow play defence (they love uncontested marks) might have been good levers to pull.
