Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 7, 2025 vs GWS

This is the Round 7 2025 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once this evening's game against GWS

has concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer

    1. Cleary is the iceberg lettuce of our list. Unobtrusive, but just gets the job done every time. When it's a crowded backline I'm now hoping he gets the ball.
    2. West is the pressure forward we never knew he could be. Leading the comp in F50 ground ball gets and makes opposition defenders earn every possession.
    3. Bevo's coaching as well as he ever had. Drop Jones for Buss, swing Lobb forward, change the kicking strategy? Sure

    Anchors
    1. Bontempelli's set shots - no wonder he got dragged....

      1. Harmes - his strength and determination really shows.
      2. West may have only had 7 disposals, but his 6 tackles and 3 goals was purely on his unbelievable work rate.
      3. Freijah grows every week, he will be a star this kid

      Anchors

      1. Yes the umpires again - four soft frees in the goal square to GWS - pathetic, they are taking the contest out of the game.
      2. The short kick turnovers - what is going on.

        1. Harmes and Kennedy additions. Seem like amazing club blokes, provide balance and leadership, 6 goals between them tonight.
        2. Clearance domination. That was immense.
        3. The ballsy af Lobb move forward and the way the kids held up down back.

        Anchors
        1. Junk time goals against. A few mistakes crept in late to gift them a bit of momentum- up till that point it looked likely that 1 point for the second half would be all they get.

          Bankers.

West is best at locking the ball in our forward 50. Psycho attack on the ball is crazy, demented and inspiring.

Libba is in career best form along with Richards

Kennedy and Harmes - grunt and flair from both.

          Anchors

Unforced errors early on by hand and foot when not under pressure - no excuses for that.

Bont missing a set shot that I SO WANTED HIM TO KICK!

They were gifted some goals and snagged a few late ones in the last.

Tackling. A few games this season, the effort was there yet missed tackles really were hurting us. Against the Orange, we stuck plenty and they were aggressive, gang tackles more often than not. Conditions help there, but there see,Ed a real focus on it.

Davidson’s gut running and competitiveness has set a standard for others to follow. He’s been a big factor in me enjoying watching our style of footy again.

English, I’ll kick him when he is off, but credit where it is due, thought he was very good and saw his confidence growing across the game. Took a really strong contested grab on the wing which to me was the exclamation mark on him finding his groove again.

            Anchors

Toby Greene. Just a shit bloke, can’t help himself. Emblematic of pretty much everything wrong with the culture. He’s a humanoid tumour.

Jake Stringer. A shame to see what’s become of him. Could have been Charlie to Bont’s EJ. Instead, a fat, erratic, mess of a bloke that blew his opportunities with is and then ran off to the two worst clubs in the league. He is a fly and EOC and the Orange are what flies are attracted to.

Throwing Buku around. He is trying hard and having good moments, but feel like Buku would benefit from having a more settled role.

              1. Lobb forward
              2. Williams back - his experience and steady hand with Lobb and Jones (and Duryea) no longer back was immense
              3. Tim stuck it up the WOOFers responsible for THAT post

              Anchors
              1. Let them through the Centre corridor too much in the last quarter
              2. Hynes lacking confidence and needs to build it in VFL. Once he gets it though, look out!
              3. Set shot goals by our big names

                1. The growing maturity of Williams, to be trusted as the go to guy to move from wing to defense when a problem needs solving, that was an important role that allowed Lobb to stay up forward. He's having a very consistent start to the season.
                2. Sanders, Richards, Freijah and West at times too are creating a really deep midfield platoon, to go on top of our veterans in Libba, Bont and Treloar (when he returns). All adding something too.
                3. Bevo. Without knowing what he's doing, the external signs, both body language, as well as the cohesiveness of the onfield group and their consistent performances and improvements shows he's in fine coaching form. I love the way he's using Buku. It's given him opportunity to get involved in the game. We know Buku's footy smarts are coming from a long way back, but his athleticism and agility makes him a great choice for that utility who can perform a variety of roles, including ruck minutes.

                Anchors.
                1. I'm very happy with a strong win, so I'm whingeing at this point, but a 10 goal plus win was on, and it would've been nice to really put the Plastics away
                2. Goalkicking from Naughts and Bont.

Bramble short kicking needs to be banned!!
VDM dropped marks and tackles that dont stick
English dropped marks. Could have been 3 vote game if held his marks

Still not seeing it yet although was better but coming from a low base.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Does Cleary need to get the ball if he is a lock down defender similar to Duyrea?
More of an In Bruges guy?

Lots of spoils and kept Stringer out of the game (not hard )
