I don't get the negativity. Those guys have played 1x game together...who's to say what they might be able to do??
I thought our backline was lowkey pretty awesome last night.

Busslinger looked liked he belonged after quarter time. Will be great to give him a run of games to see how he improves. I see a 200 gamer.

Cleary is this years' surprise packet. He's come from nowhere to become Mr Reliable. When it's scrappy and congested I want the ball in his hands.

I don't get the negativity either but some are prone to that position. The backline has been performing well and it's huge tick that we can mix and match players when we have to.

            Love the thread.
I think in the clear light of day, I'm even more impressed with the win than what I originally was.
During and just after a game its easy to focus on individual mistakes, rather than the collective team effort and outcome.
Even the very best sides and players make mistakes but it's the overall ledger that matters to me and whether the players contributions to that are in the positive.
I think almost every players last night can look at the ledger count and say they had a net positive on the outcome.
I really loved that Bevo had the level of confidence to roll with such an inexperienced backline when the game needed a tactical change, and they stood up. I don't care if they made mistakes during the game. The net result was it held up, and given the opportunity they were given, and how they performed, they must all be walking around the club with a bounce in their step.

Absolutely love what I've seen thus far from the group. I feel more confident in their abilities long term than I did 1 year ago. Its just a damn shame that Jamarra is having a personal career crisis right now, because he would really add another layer of quality and flexibility to this team.

Ok I’ll accept you know more about it than me. I still think the conditions helped us. Apart from Hogan, I don’t rate their tall forwards. It was a very good win.

Because English played well so we need to shit on something else...

Our backline was great, and would be disappointed they gave up those 5 late goals.

Definitely! I think supporters of all clubs can be very overreactive straight after a game. I love that Bevo this year has not been afraid to take risks and so fear I think they’ve all paid off and he is coaching as good as he ever has

We need to fix our small forwards and the lack of outputs. Ash and Whitfield had 61 possessions between them. Dolan, VDM, West and Hynes had 19 between them. If they are going to have low numbers then they need to stop the high backs from getting that much of the footy. Either they need to be dangerous or play a defensive role that makes a difference in the result. West was OK but the others need to give us more. Mcniel has been low impact and Im not sure Arty is the answer. Up the other end Jones and Thomas had 17 and 15. We won the game but we cannot rely on the mids every week to get high numbers.

Agree with this, but I still think it's a fair concern to have moving forward.

It was one of the biggest midfield/clearance maulings you will likely see. That territory dominance will greatly assist any backline in holding up.

They still had to hold up at different stages throughout the game and they certainly did. Very impressive.

Just on our midfield dominance, with Treloar getting close, how does everyone see his inclusion inpacting our midfield notations? I know Vanders, Dolan ect have been quiet. But i don't want us to go back to playing 2 key forwards and then 4 midfielders as our forward 6. I would also still like to see West and Freijah still get opportunities.

Great thread thank you Palmy! And thanks for the Jeff White analysis BAD.

I had the strong sense the team were playing with a really strong system and the video confirms that.

Interestingly White remarks on Lade's influence for the stoppage work which, given the quality of GWS midfield, was a huge positive for us.

But the way the whole team backed each other up and provided options while holding a disciplined field position was great. Massive tick for the coaches (and players response, of course.)

Like the way we tweaked things after a slow start too.

After the Footscray game and Duryea's domination of the game, I wondered whether he could play the defensive forward role?

He is quick, defensive minded and a good kick.

Could I have out Bevo'd Bevo with this one?

Looking at it another way, Ash and Whitfield had zero tackles and Zero goals. West 3 goals and 6 tackles, VDM 5 tackles and Dolan had a poor game.
