Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 8, 2025 vs Port Adelaide

This is the Round 8, 2025 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once this afternoon's game against Port has concluded.

has concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

    1. English, his ruckwork especially has been elite the last couple of weeks. He smashed Jordon Sweet today.
    2. Richards - his run we know, and he has the ability to kick freakish goals, we have seen that too, but I really am loving his inside body work when he's over the ball, he's not quite Libba level, but he really competes super hard and has quick hands that can intercept or block an opponent trying to get a quick handpass out. I really hope to hear he's signed on a big long term deal soon!
    3. Our hands, after the first quarter were amazing to watch, whether it was in close getting a ball from inside to out, or getting a finger to a ball and stopping them from getting the ball out.

    Anchors
    1. Our start was shaky, lots of fumbliness
    2. Nah for a 90 point smashing I'll leave any further anchors.

Our coaching staff who have made us particularly hard to play against. Especially worth mentioning the response they're getting from our bottom 6 players.

Those bottom 6 players. We all know who they are. Just playing their guts out every week and doing their part.

Bailey Williams, no frills, no fuss, just gets it done. He's a star, only you wouldn't know it.

      Anchors

Big fan of what Davidson has given us so far but his disposal was putrid today.

No other anchors. We were really good.

2 Tim English. Fantastic game. He did it all.
        3. Freijah. Will captain the Dogs one day.

Feel like he's in career best form this season. He's become a very important player for us. Such a super draft get, at like what pick 64? or something?

            1. Tim - after quarter time he dominated in the ruck and around the ground. Could easily have had 5 goals.
            2. Kicking 20 goals without some star forwards
            3. Midfield - on top for the day against a star studded Port

Trying to get food was difficult and the quality was pretty bad
Traffic jam on the freeway which wasted over 30 minutes

An Anchor has to be playing at Ballarat in well reduced access small capacity ground.
Surely they could moved it and added a year to the contract

                English - it’s been said.
Fridge - finding his feet. Loves a goal in the big moments. He’s built for finals footy.
Buku - gave great contest all day.

                A:
Plenty of Port sooks upset at losing because of the umpiring. Didn’t realise the umps kicked 15. Impressive.
Jordan Sweet trying to give it to Libba a few times. Not sure what it was about. He got pantsed anyway.

Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Remember, the umpires are cheats when it goes against us only.

Ed Richards, he can win the Brownlowe if they don't tag him.
Depth of ball winners and 0 passengers on the day.
Ads, Bont and JJ all got out of the Rat healthy.

Good to see them building a new grandstand but less than 5k for that performance is just sad.

                      1. It's been said but it deserves to be repeated, Tim was massive, has put together a good few weeks of footy now, love to see it.
                      2. Our backline is quietly cruising along as well at the moment JOD played probably his best game for the club.
                      3. Sanders, could give big ups to every player from yesterday but I just think the change in confidence in Sando from this year compared to last is unreal, unr's quick and composed through traffic and knows how to hit the scoreboard with limited midfield time, becoming a very good player.

                      Anchors:
Not much to talk about here, maybe Davidsons disposal, might just need a rest for a week, he didn't even play badly, he's just set a high bar for himself.
I'm also not a huge fan of Buss only getting 10 minutes game time in his 2nd game, but we didn't really need him yesterday and he's not gonna push anyone out of a spot yet.

Tim English attack on the footy
Rory and the rest of the defence playing without the need for Buslinger. I was devo when he was picked as sub
Richards and Dale distributing the ball

                        Davidsons disposal
First quarter start was a bit of a concern

I think Davidsons technique got found out a little in the conditions. He will be right.

What has he added to his game to cause this improvement?

And how does he become an even better contributor for us?
