Wins BRING the heat. Beat GC.

It really feels right now that we (all of a sudden) have a LOT to lose this weekend.

I remember in the aftermath of last years game talking about how a game in Ballarat was less than ideal prep for a game in Darwin (or was it the year before...these losses to GC up there in hot + slippery conditions blur into one to be honest) but, well...now I really feel like this game has become important.

Gold Coast are 100% going to be on a mission - they were pretty poor around the contest/stop last week and will be coming with a point to prove. In the meantime, everyone seems to be throwing flowers at us (except Willie Rioli and Bailey Smith of course!) but, well...there's a solid chance this week is the week we're due for a 'flat' one after 3x pretty good efforts in a row (Saints/Giants/Power)...then again, when you look at those 3-teams we've just beaten, they don't really strike fear into the heart...the last time we played a 'good' team Brisbane came back from 7-goals down to win.

I'm not sure how the club are treating this one but it really does 'feel' like an important game. Winning 4 in a row would be HUGE and - if top 4 is the goal - then it would probably be a good idea to actually GET into the top 4 teams on the ladder. I mean, I know it's only the first week of May but at the same time, after this week a maximum of 6x teams ca have done that - the 3 already there (Lions, Pies, Hawks) plus Adelaide (vs Power), Geelong (vs Giants) and one out of us and GC. If we want to 'gap' the ladder, this is a BIG chance...

Anyway - I don't really want to talk about conditions or excuses this week. I'm sure it's going to be tough and just like oppo sides probably think it's unfair we drag them to Ballarat it's probably unfair GC take us to the NT. But right now none of that matters...it's just time to get the job done.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Totally agree mjp that this week is critical for us , not only to instill belief in ourselves that we are a top 4 side , but to also instill fear into all the other sides that we are actually good enough to be top 4. Regardless of the conditions we need to win and win well , our midfield has to dominate and our forwards have to take their chances , we have to play that pressure game we brought to Ballarat and not give GC any breathing room , our best is absolutely good enough , i think the Marra saga the injuries and now the Bailey Smith incident on top of the rioli incident, has achived one very important aspect and that is how the whole list has bonded , how close they have become , you can see it on field how they are supporting each other , its time we show the AFL world what we are cabable of . Lets not stop at 4 in a row.

We've only played them there once in recent times (2023). You are correct that we played at Ballarat the previous week though.

The only other occasion was back when it was our home game in 2012. We did play them in Cairns from 2014-2017.

I remember writing a 'well what do you expect - it was 8-degrees last week, 38-degrees this week' type of explanation for a dodgey loss...

        Anyways...

At least it was quite a nice day in Ballarat this time around and we have already played in warm conditions a few times this year (although not with Darwin levels of humidity).

We have been one of the most honest and reliable teams all season. I don't expect that to change this weekend.

There is something about us this year - our players and footy dept are all totally dialled in.

I know it's important and all mjp, but can you just tell us if we'll win or not.

Top 4 teams don’t pick and choose when they play well — they absorb the pressure, handle the conditions, and win anyway. This is our chance to show we belong in that bracket. Win this, and it’s not just momentum — it’s a statement.

I think we'll have a flat one either against the dons or cats (sadly my 2 most hated teams). We've been buzzing for a few weeks and this game will take a toll on us. So it's an important one to win.

I really wish the afel would put this game before the bye.

That was one of the more frustrating losses if my memory is correct. Game was totally there for the taking. I think we started well. Looked like we would roll them. We didn't convert our chances then we just allowed easy goals and things sorta bounced their way.

2025 Western bulldogs don't look like allowing that but let's see if the ballart-darwin double header casts a spell on us.

Should be a great game in tough conditions, but we have played very well in all games this year and could have been undefeated, so the confidence is sky high.

We have some young players that don't care about the history in Darwin, or going from Ballarat to Darwin as well as a couple of imports that are playing their best footy. On top of that the Bonts, the Treloars, Richards, English are determined to keep winning.

                        LOL - 4 in a row?

Not sure I'm prepared to say we can do that.

I was (incredibly) optimistic pre-season but playing in Darwin in May after being praised all season??? I'm concerned!!!

                        Collins smashes Naughton.
                        Witts smashes English.
Long (is he back?) smashes everyone.

Are we ready for this?? Not sure.

Tough road trip. Expect us to win but sky won’t cave in if we lose. Just a bleep on the radar. Do expect to beat the Dons and Cats and go into the break either 8-3 or 7-4.
