    It's just 4-points...right???

I went and visited my Nan this morning. She turned 99 yesterday and whilst she will freely admit her memory isn't what it was, she still loves (and follows) the footy.

My great uncle was a pretty famous footballer over here - won a Sandover and was part of the WA Team of the Century - and I still remember her expressing his disgust at some of his performances late in his career: "He couldn't catch Freddy Buttsworth so he elbowed him behind the play - he STILL denies it but I saw him do it"...to her, being a hard - but FAIR - player was more important than anything. Except playing for East Fremantle...she still HATES the blue and white.

She was chatting away to me about the footy tonight (loves Marcus Bontempelli - "a BEAUTIFUL player - I wish HE played for the Dockers") and I expressed a bit of doubt about the game. She said:

"You know love, I wouldn't worry too much about the result of a game played down at that funny oval...it's only MAY you know"...

I just can't have that talk today.

This isn't 4-points. I have an unreasonable dislike for Geelong right now. I'm usually "C'e la Vie" about players who leave but I am 100% NOT amused by Smith right now...I hate all these "He's a nice young fella just misunderstood" type stories that keep coming out...and I keep reading. I don't understand why 17 of their players have to have long blonde hair and white headbands - it doesn't seem normal. I acknowledge Chris Scott is an awesome coach but does he have to be so SMARMY when explaining to anyone who dares ask a question that if they truly understood the game at the level he did that they wouldn't ask such STUPID questions - all whilst refusing to acknowledge the Cats serious home ground advantage both in terms of playing venue and recruiting...I enjoy Dangerfield the player but am just so exhausted by his "Number 1 citizen" points of view expressed via the AFLPA - and he's not even PLAYING tonight. Smith aside, most of my hatred is reserved for Tom Stewart - I admire him possibly above all others as a player - skipping the pathway and coming through country footy to become a perennial All Australian is simply incredible - but somehow he Jedi mind-tricks our players into thinking he's wearing RWB and we fall for it EVERY BLOODY TIME. Man I HATE Tom Stewart. Anyway - I digress.

No talk about 4-points or good efforts please. Win or be damned. If it means you need to elbow someone off the ball, honestly, regardless of what my Nan says I'm all for it - as long as the white headband is removed along with the head - and Chris Scott makes that "We're Geelong - I can't believe that just went against us" face that he was making back in the COVID Grand Final during the Richmond come-back. I would LOVE to see him make that face tonight.

    Win.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

For all the reasons I hate Geelong Chris Scott and that face have just accentuated it.

However, I do believe it is more I am Chris Scott and how dare you allow anything detrimental to my plans.

Twin brother Brad tries the same face but his is just I'm the brother of Chris Scott and I deserve everything to make up for being not quite as good.

I think they probably broke a few mirrors practising the face in their pre-teen years.

There are so many reasons that only a win is acceptable:

I am nauseated by the thought that Bailey Smith may be a Brownlow Medallist & Bont might not be.

Geelong have beaten up on us in finals almost ritualistically. Billy Brownless after the siren. Max Rooke elbowing Johno to the face and no free kick. And countless sides that were just too good, always standing in our way.

Chris Scott carrying on like a pork chop a few years ago at That Dump when they somehow conjured up a win when there was a stoppage in our F50 and 20 seconds to play.

2008, round 16. We are undefeated, travel to Geelong, get done by 10 goals. On the train on way back home, we had to endure Geelong fans discussing how they were disappointed, as many of their players had a “down day.”

        Please Dogs win this one.

          Somehow Bailey doesn't rile me.

          Geelong do, and always have.

Your nan sounds like a very wise woman mjp....

          However.

This one is big. Acceptable losses are no longer....um..acceptable ?

I'm worried about Bailey from a performance point of view more than anything. How do we stop him ? Knowing Bevo it will be a team assignment. Everyone bump him, bruise him, put that little bit extra in every tackle, make him know who we are, and where we come from.

Kennedy and Libba at the stoppages I think.

Can't wait for the game. Wish it was in Melbourne..

              Corrected for accuracy.

On a serious note, I love beating Geelong and I hate losing to them

99 - great old age and her mind sounds sharp

                Thumbs Up for Nan.

I am in the same boat, the Geelong Football Club is the only team I genuinely hate, and that pre-dates Baily Smith.

                It isn't just 4 points.

Geelong lose, they will be the talk of the national sport media and at the G in front of 80k again in a few weeks, or at home in their custom built stadium paid for by tax payers, just for the population of the Geelong.
And they will still have Baily Smith, who they got for nothing in a system that pretends to protect equity.

This one means more. It could solidify a belief we can match or even outdo the top teams.

Call me a coward (not a pussy). I’m off to a chamber music concert, something to calm the nerves & divert my mind. Just so nervous about this one. Also scared I’ll bust the tv in my rage or frighten our cats when I holler. I will tune in to last qtr or so.

Hoping mullet boy aka lookatme loses it completely as we within rules pummel his team and him from pillar to post.

                  Go Dogs.

The energy in my body today has me pretty confident I'm going to lose my shit tonight. I need this win. It's about more than the season.

                      I want to obliterate them.

Well I remember a good one versus Geelong at Princes Park, our home ground. We were 2nd or 3rd and Geelong 1st.
I went with my brother, The Banker, who had a great restaurant including entertainers. We went with a comedian, who was a lapsed Cats fan, for this game.
He rooted a riot in the stands Everytime we scored a goal, Cat old women were abusing him and we won, it was a blast.
I've never laughed my way through an FFC game like that one.
Plenty of other laughs come to mind.
MJP, you have the heart of Phar Lap, any FFC supporter would rate this thread, loyalty is the essence.
Loyalty is aligned with anxiety, we fear opponents and traitors and like the Romans, are metaphorically ready to impale the defeated enemy on poles.
Only in the primal imagination. The thinking mind realised that it is just another game.
