WOOF welcomes Zac Walker to the Kennel

Welcome to the Kennel - Zac Walker

    Untitled.jpg

Age: 19, Height: 191cm, Position: Defender

Walker was added to the Power list as an over-age player after strong form in the West Gippsland league, where he kicked 13 goals in 16 games with nine mentions in the best against men for grand finalist Phillip Island. But it has been down back where Walker turned heads in his first two games Power, with his reading of the play, strong hands overhead and footskills standing out. Walker clunked eight intercept marks among 10 total intercepts in his Coates Talent League debut and followed with another seven marks from the opposition and 12 intercepts in his next match. His hot start earnt him a Young Guns opportunity, where he had 12 touches and four rebound 50s against Vic Metro.

        Gippsland interceptor wows

Most tuned in for the Willem Duursma show and while he shone, he was arguably outdone by debutant Zac Walker.

The Phillip Island local read the cues well to routinely intercept high balls, finishing with 10 marks and 16 disposals.

A 194cm third tall type, Walker missed the Power's 16s squad but spent last season developing well at senior local level and has hit the ground running.

A late addition to the program, Walker is the sole 19-year-old at a club which has a history of producing Mid-Season Draft picks.

Something tells me we see intercepting in the D50 as an area of need.

Can kick goals too. Very handy.

We've gone quite young with this pick, development wise, which indicates we're hopeful of making a more longer term investment on Walker, rather than expecting him to press for AFL games in 2025 necessarily.

I like the highlight starting at the 15 second mark. Looks to have a bit of speed which he'll need at that awkward 191cm height. Too small for the real talls so will have to be capable on the mids and smalls.

Good size and another prospect to play down back. All the best to him.

Good luck Zac. A Doggies supporter as well. Sounds like he has potential and another option for our defensive stocks.

Very interesting. Cal Twoomey reporting he is on an 18 month contract.

It seems to me that we really rate him and perhaps suggested he put an 18 mth contract on himself to ward off other clubs.

                          Looking forward to his progress!!
