I think Coffield will be given another go, but with Adelaide looming and Coffield not a genuine tall, do we bring Buss in?

I thought we were a little shakey on Friday night when the ball went down there. I thought JOD looked nervous in the first half, and Lobb wasn't really playing that well.

I still don't understand what we are getting from D3. Are Coffield and Cleary good ball users, lock-down defenders or intercepters? No.
Maybe if Sellwood had a good run at it, this discussion would be over.
Are we getting anymore more from either of these 2, Vs swinging Khamis back there for periods?
Does Coffield, move better than Buss? Does Cleary defend better than Duyrea?

Garcia is a better footballer than a handful being selected, and balance does not come into it. Wherever he is, he will just win the ball more than those blokes, and none of them are elite users anyway.

Loved seeing Harmes used in a defensive role.

      Backs:
      Lobb - JOD - Truck - Freijah - JJ - Dale
      Outside:
      Sanders - Davidson
      Inside:
      Libba - Bont - Richards
      Ruck:
      English
      Forwards:
      Naughton - Darcy - Mennedy - West - VDM - Harmes

INT: Khamis - Buss - Garcia - Bramble
      Sub: McNeil

      Bubble:
      Jaques - Coffield - Baker - Duyrea - Poulter - Scott - - Cleary - Jones - Dolan - Hynes
      Not in the Mix:
Smith - Gardner- Lennedy - Croft - Walker
      Injured:
      Arty - Trelor - Sellwood - Gallagher

      Ins: Buss - Garcia
      Out: Hynes - Coffield

I think that will be the closest.

Williams appeared to get injured part way through that desperate last quarter, then effortlessly ran and bounced the ball before driving it into the forward line. Was there any lasting injury resulting from that?

It looked like he got an accidental hit in the groin area. Hoping he and Tim are ok.

McNeil was down a bit but he should have some credits in the bank and there doesn't appear to be a logical replacement.
Khamis on and off the bench over the last 3 weeks is screaming for a full game either at the senior level or at Footscray
There has to be some doubts on Coffield's ability to perform but the selectors will most likely stick with him for another week.

Garcia has been in terrific form but it's as a midfielder.
Do we have a spot for him there or will we do a Paddy Lipinski with him and promote a ball hunting midfielder into a defensive small forward role and expect it to work?
We rarely see a week go by where the Busslinger supporters aren't calling for his promotion but North typically only play 2 taller forwards so is there a genuine spot for him?
Poulter has also been in solid form, Baker is typically around the mark and Scott could come into considerations.
I've sort of ruled out Jones as he hasn't played for a couple of weeks. Could we take the opportunity to debut Jaques?
I think around now is the time we should start being strategic in team selection. Given he is fit, I think we should give strong consideration to playing Liam Jones. Four of our next eight games are against top teams that field 3 tall key forwards.

Adelaide and Brisbane play three tall forwards - Hipwood, Morris & Day (Bris) and Tex, Fogarty & Thilthorpe (Adel) - and we play each directly after the NM game. A few games later, we play GWS and Freo, both of whom play 3 tall forwards. [GWS named 2 tall forwards in their last game but had Himmelberg & Riccardi on the bench.] I think we need to have all options available for us to field our most competitive team. We also need selection flexibility in case of injury.

There are doubts about Busslinger and I don't think Gardener is AFL standard. So, having Liam Jones ready just seems good planning to me. Playing Jones this Thursday would be an ideal way for him to build some match fitness.

Rusty12 what do you mean by D3? At a guess, 3 defensive smalls?

Obliviously I already know the answer I am asking for a few other posters who do not and may be too embarrassed to ask.

Yep. Just how I make sense of the structure.
I don't really look at the height, more function and outcome)
                      D1 - Deepest
                      D2 - Next deepest
D-3 - ??? - I don't understand what we are trying to do with this one. Great point above, with Crows and Lions coming up, this should be Liam Jones. (Or Jones to D1, and so, on)
                      D4 - Defend first general
                      D5- Attacking general
                      D6- Attacking general
                      D7 - Bench

Garcia for McNeil (out for good)
Duryea in for JJ who I thought was poor
                        Busslinger for Coffield, it's time.
Poulter for VDM (brings very little imo)

                          Good questions BAD.

JOD looked lost big time. I wonder how much had to do with the poor ground conditions?

Coffield, well the less said about his game the better.

Darling is going to miss this week. Not sure if they will bring in another tall forward but if it's just Larkey and Zurhaar it would be difficult to play 3 KPDs.

What I'm hoping for this week is we get to see one of those moments that gave us nightmares when Caleb played for us and he ended up one out with an opposition tall forward. Darcy v Daniel - bring it on!

I would think that they would bring in Maley to at a minimum help out as the 2nd ruck.
