When I posted in the predictions thread trying to avoid putting a curse on the team. Although I did predict Westy would have a great game, feeling pretty good about that one

More seriously, centre bounce right after our last goal. We're half a goal away with 4 minutes to go and the first serious bit of momentum we had all night. Those are the clutch moments that true contenders make their own.

Bailey Dale hitting the post instead the last followed up by a Naughton miss.

Nothing surer than Aaron bellying the ball at least once a game. That one was almost his best ever! It went backwards.
Went at 40 percent disposal efficiency, so with 10 touches .. yeah. Five turnovers too.
I should be conditioned to our poor disposal but, I aint.

            Absolutely my moment too.

If the Lions lost, their version of this thread would be full of moments. Not bagging us as they are a great at side on their home deck but they should have won by 4-5 goals. We have our faults but giving in doesn't seem to be in us, so we stuck around for long enough. I thought we were mostly great at taking our moments to give us a sluggers chance and then we got that chance late.

As we see time and time again, we cannot deep, deep water moments. I truly don't want to be cynical as I really like this group and think the effort/buy in/care for the joint etc is high, but I thought we were about a 20% to win that clearance. Our record in close games in remarkably poor over the last, I think. 3 years? We bat at about 10% in games that can be won in last 5 minutes, which is bizarrely low across whatever spot over a period like 3 years. A lot of times you just fall over the line, meet a side who is never worse with nerves etc (2 of our 3 clutch wins over 3 years are against Blues ha).

Going to that point a bit, the frustrations from Friday Night are almost entirely about what has come before it and, what we believe will keep happening. We just cannot win a game unless we are clearly dominant and win by 4-5 goals +. That's just really hard to do vs the best.

Freijah, Bont and particularly West nailing their chances late were good positive moments for us.

As much as Brisbane shoulda coulda woulda, the reality is we were 4 points down with a centre bounce and 1 minute on the clock. I'd have to watch it back, but in that situation you would see a team like the pies set up for all out attack...create space around the stoppage, make the opposition worry about defending you. I felt like our setup was unchanged.

That last centre bounce Tim actually won the tap cleanly in our direction, it did favour McCluggage though and he sharked it. Their half backs and half forwards were involved as well with Wilmott, Ah Chee and Cameron all getting in to help their mids.

We are slow as a midfield group and other teams when they go full boar intensity over run our guys.

A stupid sexy woofer made me watch this.

So with the game to win, none of our mids were in attacking positions, all defensive side of their opponents. None of them were on the move or blocking to create space. We just let the lions set up behind the ball and win it.

Ed starts defensive side and is led to the ball - no body, no blocks.
Libba starts defensive side and is led to the ball - no body, no blocks.
Bont starts beside opponent on our attacking side, probably the target of Tims tap, but is under direct pressure from Richards opponent Mccluggage who ends up winning the clearance.
Mccluggage to Dunkley, to Wilmot coming off half back with Kennedy trailing him.

I remember a while back the pies were down by a kick, needed the last clearance. Sidebottom went and stood at CHF, just inside the centre square. It left heaps of space around the ball for Pendles and Daicos to get it and move it forward.

It feels like our big tactic was "hope Bont does something sick". We hedged our bets. I would have preferred to see us go all-out attack and lose the clearance, than lose it by just playing the same way we always do.

Instead of JJ going the punch, could he have marked the ball.

The moment for me is the same every week. How many goals do teams get against us in the last minute of the qtr. They got a goal just before half time. Missed a shot on 3/4 time and kicked a goal after the siren. So thats 3 times we didnt close out the qtr. Week before half time and 3/4 time goals for Adelaide. And just for good measure go back to the last few minutes in 3rd qtr of 2021 grand final. We let teams go in with positive momentum. In reverse if we have a shot after the siren in a qtr we usually screw it up.
