Are we in a position to offer Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera a MEGA deal

    A left field thought.

Should we offer Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera a mega offer or is it a stupid thought and he would laugh at us?

I think he is a brilliant player and worth chasing. He is out of contract at the end of the year. He has great pace and would complement our inside players? We would have to clear the decks a bit, but we have the salary cap available to fit him in.

    Am I dreaming?

We should be offering anyone as good as he is massive cash to come to us, given the Hurley money, JUH likely to leave and the clearance of highly paid players over the last few years.

Class on the outside is a definite issue for us and I'd be prioritising that. If he delivers that I'm happy to entertain it.

Yes, the issue is that port are already offering that deal. With the benefits of being his home state with his best mate Jase Burgoyne.

Every club which thinks they have the salary cap space should be putting an offer in front of Nas.

I do wonder if Port will be 'happy' to trade Butters if it gives them the cap space and trade hand for Nas...

As an aside, his finish to win the game reminded me of the pureness with which JJ hit his match winner vs. the Swans at the SCG in 2016, and roughly from the same area of the ground. His last two goals were lovely set shot finishes.

You can always offer a mega deal and see how a player reacts but I doubt we can entice him.
Outside of the money our selling point could be that we are a vastly more competitive side than the Saints will be in the short term.

He's probably going to get a $2m offer - I'm uncomfortable with paying anyone $650k more than what we're paying Bont.

I don't think we're in the hunt. I hope he stays at St Kilda because he'd rip the heart out of them if he leaves.

We have Dale, who is elite at a lot of the same areas as NWM. Maybe we can use Dale at times as an elite weapon forward of centre whenever he is sat on off half back - he is only going to continue getting that treatment, so I think we need to be proactive and get Dale hurting more with less disposals.

From memory, he was very impactful on the scoreboard as a forward for a number of weeks leading into the 2019 finals - I'm not advocating him as a permanent F50 option but he had the talent and ability to be able to adjust and adapt when needed.

I reckon he's set on Port, however i think we could involve ourselves with the trade in prying Butters out this year, i wonder if the Saints would be interested in Jamarra? NMW to Port, Butters to Dogs, Jamarra to Saints and picks/pick swaps to even up each part of the trade.

That said, as brilliant NMW was last night, the Dees were absolutely shocking and had they have been switched on, Saints wouldn't have won that game.

Personally, I prefer to see Marra in the RWB

There’s no chance we’re in the loop here, he’s only leaving to go back to SA and saints have more money than just about anyone to throw around so it’s not a $$$ thing we obviously can’t compete with them there. If he doesn’t sign after the emotions of last nights game as truly the greatest hope Saints have well he’s gone back to SA.

This is great news for us as it opens the door for Butters, I think getting a young player of Nas’ ability in is the only way they may accept letting Butters go early IMO.

What we need to focus on right now is improving Marras image as much as we can to show other clubs that he’s ‘turned a new page’ so to speak. Ie get him dominating the VFL and pushing for an AFL spot (when in reality we obviously won’t be playing him this year but we need to make it look like we would)

Then you sell the dream of an in form Marra to the saints, they’ll need some type of hope to cling to if they lose Nas which would be completely club shattering to be honest. They might just be open to it, Marra gets to stay in Melbourne on big dollars and we turn him & picks into Butters.

Marra > Saints, Nas > to Port and Butters > Dogs, we’d also have to give up a couple of late first rounders on top back to the saints probably.

                    That should be the play

I think Nas is another level to Dale with his all around game, but I agree with the sentiment. The issue is that Dale is literally our whole back half ball movement game. If we managed to fix our defensive half I’d love to also have the ability to throw Dale forward of centre at times but don’t think we have that luxury right now. Butters in could help us swing the magnets depending on game situation though ie Richards to half back & Dale fwd (in game, not full time of course)

I see one of our issues is an ability to defend. NWM would not help us there. Dale is light years ahead of him defensively.

I don't think any team could run with both.

It's a tough one, you just wonder how much the club wants him, personally i'd love Marra to finish up being a Bulldogs legend but with Naughton and Darcy....and Crofty, how much do we actually need him? Naughton will remain a forward long term for us same with Darcy and have shown that they can work well together, personally i think the two key forward set up is the way to go.
