    Take a Breath & Deebrief - Round 22

If ever there was a game to take a breath and debrief. My anxiety is still through the roof after that scare. There was genuinely some PTSD of 2021 in that 3rd quarter, thank god there was a different last quarter outcome

If you had told me 12 months ago that we had a player going clutch out of his mind to save our season and it wasn’t Bont I might’ve smacked you. Don’t get me wrong Bont had a great game, but Ed Richards wow. Take a bow. Fantastic all-round game but that last quarter especially was unreal. Probably unlikely due to other favourites having less around them to steal votes, but he’s is having a Brownlow worthy season

If I hear one more person suggest Aaron Naughton is a backman, ILL SPEW UP. The man is an absolute star, this is no longer just a hot patch, he’s just taking over the forward line. After years being the #1 forward, now getting the second key defender he’s becoming so hard to stop and his running efforts, like the one that resulted in his and the first goal of the game is such a joy to watch. As is his Goalkicking these days, who saw that coming

Couple other quick shoutouts. Sam Darcy you might’ve had a tough day, but you absolutely took your moment, what.a.mark. Definition of courage. Oskar Baker, ever since that turnover in the 2nd (I think) you really turned your game, and possibly your season around. Played with an edge and an agro I’ve not seen before but it was great to watch, was pivotal in the outcome

We got out of jail in what was always a danger game, particularly after the classic coach sacking bounce back game. Equation is still simple, win our last two and we’re in. Cant take the Eagles lightly either.

Thanks so much for this weekly read.

You mentioned the leaders standing up and Sam Darcy epitomised that.

Struggled for a lot of the game but was brilliant through the last quarter and that final mark was superb.

Basically shouted that we won't be beaten.

As with Bulldog Joe, Many thanks Palmy.

Richards was superb and stood up the most when it counted. He was one player who kept cleaning the grass out of his boots when he came off and he was one of the few players for us who didn't slip on the members side of the ground.

I can’t believe we won that game. We never win that game.

The Dees are obviously a toxic workplace but they still have dangerous players everywhere and gave it more of a nudge than they have in just about 3 years. We should be very happy with what we achieved.

We were sort of in control for most of the game, but Dees got on top in the third quarter. Every time we kicked ahead they would respond and even in the last when there was 2 min to go they got within 6 points. Some of the acts in those last few minutes were just brilliant. Darcy's mark, of course, but the tackles by Kennedy, through pure determination, were just brilliant and stopped the Dees going forward.

It actually was a great win and as Happy Days says, they do still have some very good players and Gawn almost got them there but he tired in the last and Tim got on top of him.

Yep, thought we were well on top at half-time but didn’t capitalise on the scoreboard. You give a team a sniff they can punish you

English missing the goal in the 3rd was exactly the same as Mcniel in Sydney. Started an avalanche! Both times the game would have been shut the gate but turned into much harder work than needed. These bad lapses have to stop or kick the easy goals to keep our momentum going.

We won, that is all that matters but I suspect that if May and Lever had played we may have lost.
