Everyone else in the competition except the Crows have had uncompetitive shockers.
I actually agree with all of that.

i just still don’t trust us to get the win.

What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

We have to start believing , and what better time to do it then now , this week against Freo .
The club this year have done a pretty good job of keping our year together , the injuries , Bont missing the 1st 5 games of the season Darcy missing a 8 week chunk of the season , Treloar mising virtually the year , Weightman not playing at all this year , and the distraction , Marra missing the whole year , major obstacles that they have navigated and still won 14 games to date .
Last time we played Freo in round 4 this year we fell short by 16 points over there , missing Bontempelli and Treloar , both im tipping will play sunday , so my heart is telling me we will step up and beat Freo convincingly , I belive hallelujah .
PS not worrying what my head is telling me .

Same here. We've been burnt too many times. My logical mind says we can do it but history pulls me into pessimism.

I "thought" we'd beat Hawthorn last year too. Funnily enough freo supporters are just as pessimistic with their team so one of us has to overcome it.

And the biggest distraction of all (even more than the Marra circus) has been Bevo's contract status, which was at its most complex earlier in the season when our squad was at its thinnest in terms of available personnel.

I feel like the team has been in the bubble and locked in all season, hence the relentless consistency of performance week to week. Of course it's possible, but it would be a major shift away from the previous 23 weeks if we put in an uncompetitive effort on Sunday. When you get to this part of the season, you are who you are, and we've been consistently very strong. So have Freo to be fair - their overall talent level is the real concern, not any possible drop-off from us. Whatever happens, one very good team will not be playing in September. I'm confident we will prevail and secure a spot on the starting grid.

Except for 2021 when our finals appearance was already secured, every year since 2019 we've been in a do-or-die scenario in the last round to either make finals/have the chance to make finals - we've won all of them. That doesn't guarantee anything on Sunday, but we clearly have shown the ability to hit the line when needed.

We now know that the lead-up to the Hawthorn final last year was made complicated by the Marra situation - no excuse but certainly an explanation. Hawthorn were also white-hot to be fair - I reckon they left a potential GF berth on the table last year.

Given this game to me feels like a final, I had our last few finals appearances in mind rather than final games of the season.

You're right, the giants game last season was a great win. The other years I can't remember the quality of side we had to beat to get in. I can't imagine they were similar to what we're facing on Sunday (a true finals outfit ala giants last year). The difference this season compared to last is everything is on the line for both teams. GWS had already locked up their place last year (although still had ladder position to play for).

It's great to be at home under the roof. That works in our favour big time.

This is the fundamental nagging danger with this lot though, isn't it?

Every game from here on is sudden death.

We've learned consistency this season, finally.

Let's see if we've learned how to rise to the occasion.
