    What happens now?

Well the season has come to an abrupt end and we haven't grasped our chances in an all too familiar story.
    - Our VFL side is enter finals but a lot players can't play for them given the restriction imposed by the competition.
    - Exit interviews probably can't start while the VFL side is still in contention but a few might go early.
    - We have a number of players who are not contracted for next season and we will have to make some hard calls there.

Using Axe Man contract thread these are the players that will be looking to hear about their future

    Adam Treloar: 2025
    Liam Jones: 2025*
    Arthur Jones: 2025
    Oskar Baker: 2025 (Rookie)*
    Anthony Scott: 2025
    Caleb Poulter: 2025 (Rookie)*
    Nick Coffield: 2025
Taylor Duryea: 2025 (Rookie) - Retirement announced.
    Jason Johannisen: 2025*
    Michael Sellwood: 2025 (Rookie)

    - We also might find out if we can keep our assistant coaches
Lade, Pratt, Spangher, Geary, Edge, Johnson and Reid.

There is a lot to play our before we get to the trade period and National Draft.

Plenty to do and important to not be too happy or gentle with ourselves, not convinced we will make the hard calls though.

    Consider delisting the following:

    Adam Treloar
    Liam Jones
    Anthony Scott
    Nick Coffield
    Jason Johannisen

I'd be offering a 1 year contract to each of Treloar, A. Jones, Baker and Sellwood.

Would be a sad end for Liam Jones and JJ, but I just can't see either of them impacting at senior level next season. JJ was totally uncompetitive in the first half today and hasn't provided driving run off half back for quite a while. Coffield doesn't have it and we've invested enough time into Poulter without enough return. Would expect the guys from last year's draft to go past him fairly quickly next year. Scott is an interesting one. Has been unlucky with injury when he could have been a good role player in the seniors the last couple of years. Ultimately though he'll be nearly 31 at the start of next season - too old to be a 'maybe' contributor with injury troubles.

        Yes some changes are required:
Dureya is moving on as you’ve mentioned - he’d be an ideal development coach if we have a role

Anthony Scott has barely played in 2 years and it’s likely over for him.

I haven’t seen enough from Coffield for me to think he can play a functional role for us.

I can’t see how Liam Jones or even a contracted Ryan Gardner survive after being overlooked for Buslinger today.

Arty showed a bit today and I’d be inclined to persist - I’m not prepared to write off Treloar yet. I think JJ has earned another year.

Baker has improved in my eyes and is worth persisting with. I’m less convinced of Poulter. I haven’t seen Sellwood but would hope they view him as being worth persisting with.

I won’t be surprised if one of Lade or Pratt moves on. Geary to be elevated to a line coach role, as he’s clearly very highly rated by Bevo.

I’d like to see Edge be more involved in the AFL side. He’s got great results out of the VFL team, and worked with the GWS expansion side as a defence and forward coach

For mine we really need to take a good look at the amount of picks we need.

I would think that Treloar, A Jones, Naker and Selwood are all safe

L Jones, Duryae and JJ all go that frees up cash to go shopping for Butters and Silvani

            BB.

Looking forward - Naughton, Darcy and JUH. It will be the envy of everyone.

We didn’t trust Treloar in a make or break game today, I can’t see why we would sign him up again. Someone tell me how McNeil was not only selected in front of him but given an extended contract?

I would say goodbye to JJ as well.

I would also consider VDM replacing him in the backline. He started off as a backman, but he should train there in the preseason.

Yeah I'm not sure id enter 2026 with a positive attitude if VDM was our plan at half back. If JJ was to go I reckon Oscar Baker has shown he would be better then VDM

This isn't usually my tune because I usually always want to make them and consider doing so a great achievement given the nature of the competition, though missing finals this year means we can't pinch a win in one and gives us clear air to be as ruthless as possible in our rebuild. This is what I'd do:

Adam Treloar: 2025 - 1 year. I am close to wrapping him up but feel his class has been missed at times.
                          Liam Jones: 2025* - retire
Arthur Jones: 2025 - 1 year, two if competition is circling (he has an upwards trajectory and looked classy today)
Oskar Baker: 2025 (Rookie)* - 1 year, two if competition is circling (he is a depth player who can play at the level when we're at full strength)
                          Anthony Scott: 2025 - retire
Caleb Poulter: 2025 (Rookie)* - delist
Nick Coffield: 2025 - move to rookie on a single year deal if we can, delist otherwise (he needs continuity and we lack depth in his position)
Taylor Duryea: 2025 (Rookie) - Retirement announced.
                          Jason Johannisen: 2025* - retire
Michael Sellwood: 2025 (Rookie) - retain as rookie, or promote to senior list depending on finals performances

I wouldn't know a thing about the coaches, but with inconsistent quality in personnel and directing a rebuilding team to win 14 games and scoring as much as we did things tell me they're doing something right.

Beyond the OP's question and reflecting on the remainder of the list (and this should all be in the list management thread anyway), I'd look to move on the likes of Garcia and Khamis to secure a small defender or outside running type. Garcia tries but he's too sloppy in the execution department or just plain careless, I can't figure out which and with Weightman hopefully back and Treloar playing we'll need to make space with it not being fair on him to languish in the twos. Khamis needs to spread his wings elsewhere, especially given Croft has debuted and shown a huge amount in two weeks.
                          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

                            Michael Sellwood: 2025 (Rookie)✅

Target ready to play, not ancient Defenders, at least two, a tall and a medium. Game tested, experienced 1 on 1 capable with wise enough heads. They need to be able to slot in seamlessly for Round 1.
Be prepared to pay decent money!

JJ, Adz and Liam Jones are too high risk to keep on despite it being painful to let them go.
Scott a victim of injury, bad timing, age, missed the window. A shame.
