Bankers And Anchors - Round 19, 2018 vs Port Adelaide

This is the round 19, 2018 edition of the Weekly Bankers and Anchors Thread. Once the game against Port Adelaide is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

      B

      Greene showed some good traits
Trengove is our new Roughy. Ruck who can pinch hit forward or back.
Macrae. Is a dead set gun.

      A

Five tall defenders. Five marks inside fifty to Dixon. Five goals to Dixon.
MC for selecting players who are clearly not going to improve the team.
Not turning up after half time again.
Giving up 23 shots at goal in a rain/hail/high wind affected game. 23 FFS. To our 9.
Showing our Ballarat that non-fighting spirit.

        Jack Macrae what a star
Trengove very competitive in the ruck
A few Bont things were special

Special mention to all of us who made the trek, knowing we’d lose, and enduring temps of 5 degrees and less

People say injuries are not an excuse. Today the cupboard was as bare as bare can be. And it showed.
Players who from 30 metres out decide to centre it. TAKE THE KICK !
Charlie Dixon’s regular ability to feast on our ineptitude.

          Bankers

          1. Naughton- this 18 year old kid can play.

          2. Macrae - a lone hand

          3. Watching a debutant get his first goal in AFL with his second disposal.

          Anchors

          1. AFL for never ever backing this club to make a go of things. Bad timeslots, Good Friday and any other initiative we have ever had in our history. Just give us a go.

          2. The backline players for just slamming the ball on the boot in the last quarter without trying to find someone up field. Time and time again - only to have the ball come straight back.

          3. Second half fade outs

            Bankers:

            - Fergus Greene's first AFL goal

            - Trengove very good in the ruck today

            - Macrae just knows how to find it - great season and will probably win the B&F with McLean close behind.

            Anchors:

            - Our 2nd halves - not enough but understandable given we have a young side at the moment.

            - Adams in one on one contests is struggling.

            - Not taking our opportunities when we get it inside 50. Still a problem!

They really went out of their way to make things harder for us in this front. It gets my conspiracy theory juices pumping.

                B.

                Trengove's game
Greene's marks in the first half plus he kicked a goal
Macrae & Bont are very smart wet weather players

                A.
Never appeared here before, but Morris was smashed today. Maybe even more than Adams was
But Adams gets his own mention
JJ was out of position then barely bothered. Worst game he's played for years

                  Bankers:

Trengove's best game for the club.
Macrae. Unfortunately I was correct in my prediction the night before the game, that Macrae would have more possessions that our team score.
Naughton - only player who did anything of note in the last quarter.
Dunkley - high 20's disposals and double figure tackles again.

                  Anchors:

                  - Lack of available players.
                  - Jordan Roughead's ruckwork. Seriously, first two ruck contests after half time he actually gets the clear tap outs (rare) and puts them straight down the throat of Port players. Game over.
                  - Marcus Adams - his last two weeks have been as bad a game as a key defender as you'd see.
                  - Last quarter - we are behind and need to score to win - and had extra numbers in defence and still they marked at will inside 50...and then if we got the ball we had nobody to kick to. Beggars belief.
