Like any occupation there would be a whole range of player managers from bad to great. Some may be like you describe, but I don't doubt many are genuinely trying to achieve the best outcomes for their clients (which isn't always getting the most money).

Many player movements involve the same or even less money on occasion, which contradicts your theory.

You can't tar everyone with the same brush.

They are all the same as used car salesman

Seriously though, they aren't all the same.

Players should look to expand free agency and have access to no trade/ no move clauses in their agreements under certain parameters. Example, length of time in the AFL, within n years of signing a contract, limited capacity to exclude options available to the club. Players can have the option for waivers and rescind the NTC at certain points.

Clubs should look to have access to mechanisms that allow for trades without the players consent subject to the type of conditions set out above.

Bargaining agreement would have to spruce up $ for players to push it through and it probably has some complexity with Australian workplace laws but if the players all want more movement and more US style management in this space, that’s what’s missing from the scene at the moment, in my view.

Clubs should only be able to have 3 players with contracts exceeding 5 years and contracted players should not be able to dictate specific clubs where they want to be traded to.

So essendon have already come out and offered Worpel a mammoth deal. It seems they're kicking off a revenge tour against Hawthorn and have gone early.

Another big offer from one of our Butters rivals though.

The more they have to pay to keep Weddle, the less they have for Butters
