The joke would have been on the Crows when a 49 year old Nathan Saunders rocked up to pre season training.

Going back, the only trades that made a difference that I can think of are Dangerfield to Geelong, Neale to Brisbane and Cameron to Geelong. Even Lynch, Tarranto and Hopper to Richmond did't really move the needle for them.

The other significant trade, of course, was Lake to Hawthorn. Perhaps Wilke to us would have had a similar effect but, unlike Lake, he didn't really want to leave, just wanted to be paid better.

The one that could be Neale and Dangerfield level would be Butters next year. Time to start praying!

Dunkley to Brisbane has worked out kind of OK - 3 years in, 3 GFs and 2 premierships so far

          True.

Do you think he was an influential in their flags as the others I mentioned? As influential as getting Neale was? Could probably mount the case, I guess.

Good point. It hurts more than Lake, but you would have to add him to the Cameron et al. list.

The only reason Lake left was because of the dud coach BMac

                    Yes, unfortunately.

                    Good move by him.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Lake was cooked with us, and we got rid of him as quickly as we could to facilitate trades we needed to make. Could have held out for more, sure, but everyone's a negotiation expert this time of year........

Dunkley should have been traded when the sexiest poster alive said he should have been. He was never getting starting midfield line up for us, even if he did win a BnF in his final year playing pretty much the exact same role he plays for Brisbane.

We missed on a KPD but I'm glad we preserved draft capital instead of throwing it away. We have a development policy that is working OK, given we've been rebuilding for two years and haven't fallen behind in games won during the season. Not saying everything's perfect, but we filled one of two obvious needs (discounting the need to get JUH off the books without losing more skin - which we did) and I think clubs are getting credit for being active rather than actually doing what we did in recruiting for actual needs.

I genuinely think there should be AFL mandated negotiation training of the highest level across AFL list managers, football managers and anyone involved in the process. All of these wankers think the game is about non-disclosure, keeping cards close to chests and surprise asks. Anyone who has to do this shit day to day knows disclosure is king (actually say exactly what you want), swapping low value to you for high value to them comes next (and vice versa), and egos need to be left at the door.

How many AFL people do you think actually get that?
                      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Seen reports that Hawks didn't actually make an offer to Essendon until Monday I think (plus their bullshit ultimatum), and that Geelong/Mackie have a history of refusing to give an actual nearly good offer until just hours are left to give the receiving club no room for negotiation and railroad them into accepting it.

I genuinely do think making the trade period months longer would be beneficial for all parties, but knowing how childish this league is half of them will be too busy trying to prove their dick is the biggest to get anything done before the last two days anyway.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Thanks for banging that drum again Soup, wasn't clear the first ten times!

It's been a bit of a reckoning for the "big" and genuinely obnoxious clubs this time around, and I'm glad for it. Geelong offering "3 x 1st rounds" for Curnow was genuine hubris territory, and the thing is, I think they probably thought they'd get it done with that shit.

Same with the smartest coach in the land (behind the smartest coach of all time - Chris Scott), Sam Mitchell most likely reporting back he had both Oscar Allen and Zac Merrett sewn away prior to the trade period. Hawthorn in its pursuit of a better midfield has only made their's worse, Geelong couldn't get a deal done at all. And they sat there the entire time acting cool AF, not even realising the entire purpose of their trade period was going to shit!

As frustrated as I get with our conservative approach, I'd ****en hate to be a Hawthorn or Geelong supporter right now. At least we got incrementally better than the last time we played and have at the same time been taking a development route to improvement.
                          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.
