Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Riley Garcia
Call me tragic but I still find myself barracking for Dahlhaus and Stringer when watching the Cats and Bombers. They'll always be premiership heroes, and I thought Dahlhaus in particular epitomised our 2016 team with his tenacity in the forward half.
Agree that Garcia has a lot of Dahlhaus in him.
Roughy is the only one I can wish well.
Dahl and Stringer are premiership heroes, for sure. Forever.
But I can't help feeling they were also a big part of our premiership hangover.

But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.Comment

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Riley Garcia
Yep. There was a VFL report this year from Varcoe saying (from memory) that Garcia was the best he’d seen. Assuming that best was in context of a kid coming off an ACL with limited games against men. Which still seemed high praise. But Varcoe was right, and as you say, if he keeps this level up then he probably stays in the in the best 22 where McLean was hoping to lock in the position. Once he gets more experience and preseasons he’s going to be another headache for oppositions. We should thank Hawthorn for giving us the pick to grab him.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Riley Garcia
Riley has played himself into a nice pay rise next contract compared to what he might’ve been looking at start of season.
How desperate are we now to sign him up?Comment

He gives our midfield another dimension with his acceleration and physicality. At this point I'd say he's officially a high priority signing.Comment

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Riley Garcia
Garcia a Bulldog until 2027
Bulldogs utility Riley Garcia will remain in the red, white and blue for at least the next three seasons after signing a fresh deal until the end of 2027.
Hailing from Western Australia, the 23-year-old finished runner-up in the Footscray best and fairest, averaging 30 disposals per game.
Garcia has played 31 AFL games since being drafted at Pick 62 in the 2019 National Draft.
Playing multiple roles in the AFL side, Garcia averaged 16 touches and four tackles across his 12 games this season.
Garcia couldn?t have been happier to remain at the Mission Whitten Oval into the future.
?No doubt that moving away from home has its challenges, but it is a testament to the Club being very family-orientated,? Garcia said.
The relationships that I have here are ones I?ll have for a very long time; I love what I?ve built here.

?I?m very grateful to the coaches at the Club, I feel like they are the right people to get the best out of me.
?This is a Club that drafted me when I was injured at 18, I feel like I have a lot to repay to the Bulldogs ? I feel like success is really close.?
Western Bulldogs General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power, was excited to lock away Garcia for three more seasons.
?We?re really pleased to have Riley commit to us for the next three years,? Power said.
?After a number of challenging years with injury, Riley had great continuity in 2024, playing every week at either AFL or VFL level.
?He continues to show promising signs in the AFL system, with his hardness and ability to compete complementing his athletic attributes.
?Still at 23, Riley remains an important part of the Club?s future having shown significant upside, dominating the VFL competition and playing multiple roles at the highest level.?FFC: Established 1883
