Re: WB Game Day V Hawthorn R17 2020

Is Bont having an underrated huge year? Seems to be really building into beast mode form the last few weeks.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Honestly, among woofers yes, among the media probably not.

Bont has had a couple of quiet days, but he has been huge over the last part of the season.

        He will be All Australian.

Bont has been massive over the past 6 weeks. My what's up with Bont?' thread clearly kick started the huge turnaround in form.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

His work around the clearances was exceptional yesterday and he seemed to have confidence in his body to break away from the chasers which hasn’t always been the case in recent times.

Thought his marking was very impressive and bar for a few loose kicks it would’ve been almost the complete game.

I thought he was comfortably our best player.

If we assume that he gets either 10 or 8 votes from yesterday's game in the AFLCA award (which he will either get best on or Caleb will), then Bont will move to 6th in the voting for the year. I think the AFLCA award is as good a measure as any for individual player's (at the top end) seasons. So I would expect he is AA again this year, and in all likelihood he will either win our B&F, or at minimum be in the top 3 with Caleb and Jacko.

Re: WB Game Day V Hawthorn R17 2020

Unlike most i never really felt threatened after our start. I mean maybe when McLean went down i thought "we have gone to water when this has happened in the past" but 5 minutes after that we settled in and were good to go. Actually taking our chances in the first quarter and capitalising on our dominance kind of meant it felt like we took it out of the Hawks reach and while Geelong have shown that our leads can be run down Hawthorn is on a very different level.

Really feel for Toby, after 3 years of mediocrity he was finally finding form in that role again. The moment where he dragged himself out of that contest by his arms with his legs immobile behind him was sickening.

Caleb Daniel continues to impress, in the first half especially he would have the ball with absolutely nothing to go to and would instead run 10m and pop it into the tiniest of gaps. That Caleb Daniel kicks twitter account is going to have a lot of fresh content.

Bont was dominant and so assertive with the ball and in the contest.

Ryan Gardner to his credit has gone from being the worst player I've seen to someone who I'm happy to give another contract to. I do have concerns that this is his ceiling, I'm not sure we will see him emerge with a weapon to his game like a strong mark or amazing kicking, but having a guy who just does stuff the right way could be valuable on a list that can be very hit and miss in that regard.

Also wanted to mention Ed Richards who forced himself to get involved much more often than normal and really helped pick up the slack left by Mcleans injury. That ground ball win he got for Bailey Smiths ridiculous goal was outstanding.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

You might be the new bulldogtragic.

Now you need to land us a Tom Boydesque trade.

I think another pre-season training alongside Keath and the other defenders will do Gardner a world of good. It's a shame that Morris isn't going to be around because you couldn't learn the ropes from anyone better.

He gets compared to Hamling but I agree (and have been thinking lately) that Morris is probably the perfect person to model himself on. If he can be a tall Morris who just wins his contests and doesn't try to do anything too fancy with the footy he could be great for us.

Didn't we just land Josh Bruce? I mean he's just as maligned as Boyd was when he first came over and he has the added benefit of playing the same on-field role!

                        I need new pastures!

Or, just convince Tom to come back, and resume his career next year.

Not for me - I like the Tom Boyd story as it stands.

He's just cracked a career high in the AFL player ratings. Gone to 3, previous best 4 so I think he's been massive last month or so. Caleb also career high.
