Kick-2-Kick Podcast, 1974 and David Thorp

So - Kick 2 Kick for 1974 is up and I was happy to see we made the finals for the first time since 1961 (the GF).

    BUT.

In passing it was noted that Thorp had moved to Richmond in the off-season after captaining us in '73.

Umm. What the hell happened? Is this Gryphon before Gwifen?

    Tell me the story please!
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

The first final I ever went to was the 1974 elimination final against Collingwood out at VFL Park. We had the tallest team I have ever seen in the RWB and we got done.

His story is that after he did his knee in early' 74 he had a falling out with Bob Rose a couple of board members pretty much offered him the coaching job but after he applied the president Dick Collinson found out and stuck with Rose so Thorpy decided to accept an offer from Richmond.

I can remember him coaching Yarraville in 77/78. A few of the players who played under him were a bit mystified with his methods. He wasn't huge on tactics.

With the AFL Trade Period currently underway, Rhettrospective returns with the first of two interviews related to Richmond trades; today's episode with David Thorpe.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
