Re: Welcome to the Kennel - Nick Coffield

I know it was a bit of a laugh having that 'Coffield getting ignored' video on our social media, but how good is it that he's moving freely and having a pre-season?

I think the kid's only had one proper pre-season so far in his career. Good sign.

Downside is he didn't actually call for the ball. Needs to learn his teammates names and use his voice!

Just watching the latest clip on Insta I actually didn't realise Coffield was 194cm, that really does put him into 3 defender territory.

We seriously struggled kicking it out of defence last year and his neat kick would definitely be an improvement over Keath or Gardy. Fingers crossed he can stay fit because his marking power collectively with Ed, Jones and JOD could be a strength we haven't had down back for awhile.

I'm sort of surprised to hear that he's 194cm tall but I did see that. I wonder if that's a shoes on or off scenario?
To me he's best suited to the intercepting 3rd tall role working off his opponent so his height isn't that important.

I've only seen 191 from official sources so I'll stick with that over the retractable tape measure lol

My son played played basketball against him in DV and I coached against him. Family massive dogs fans. Would come to basketball in their dogs gear. As always there were more skilful and highly rated juniors in footy but work ethic and dedication overcomes more taemt4d players. I think he has massive upside and looking forward to him having an injury free season. The number he did on Roarke in the elimination still haunts me and cost us the game.

Re: Welcome to the Kennel - Nick Coffield

I can see Coffield play in a role similar to Nick Vlastuin. Where he isn't the main intercept marking back (May, Lever, Andrews types) but he is the player we'd like to use to be the loose man in defense if the opposition is playing a forward short. He's a solid mark, consistent kick, reads the play up the field well, won't get lost if he is further up the ground on a high press and his pace is good enough for the role.

IMO Richards and Dale are a bit too short for the role, have shown they can defend one on one and still get free to attack. JOD isn't experienced enough at this stage. I think this could be Coffields place in the team if he stays fit.

Hoping this lad is consistent and good enough to maintain a lock posy in Defence.

WE are desperate for a Buss and Coffield to step up and improve our defencive unit

                        Cheers

If Coffield isn't able to stay fit the whole year it would be great if Bus is ready to step into the position while Coff is unavailable.

I think Khamis is right in the mix for that role as well. In most of the drills it seems he's returned to the back line mix.

It's the only way we could justify keeping him. If Buku is playing I'd say we are in some injury trouble.

He seems miles off AFL standard.

You do you know that both Dale and Richards are taller than Vlaustin. (At least they are on the stats page I used as a reference)

Agree that Dale isn’t suited as an interceptor, but Ed is very adept in that role.. expecting big things from him in ‘24.
