I'm not as bullish on Murphy but Luke Darcy would be almost perfect for the role given he is a savvy media performer and knows his footy.
Could he take the role given he was the one who recommended and interviewed Bevo for the senior gig?

Maybe I don't understand the role, or qualifications are needed for the position...but why do you think Darcy and Murphy meet the needs?

I would be concerned that neither of them have held a position like this before, and are also too close to our coaching and playing group to make objective decisions.

Has Darcy worked in a non executive role at a footy club? Not sure he has the right skill set. Also sounds like he's looking at moving into politics.

How long did he wear 29 for? Only his debut year?

First 4 seasons/76 games (thanks AFLTables). Much longer than I expected, although like you (I assume) i was surprised how many highlights lacked his iconic 3.

                        Was it Mark Kellet prior?

I have trouble with the Bont vs. Grant comparison. Both off Broadway in terms of exposure relative to their times, but I reckon if the cameras were on Grant as much as they are on Bont relatively, then Grant escalates in terms of players of his era.

Unfortunately for Grant we couldn't nail a couple of flags, let alone one. Just one flag has him in an entirely different conversation career wise.

                          Absolute freak.

Bob has not demonstrated any real skill or ability to manage such a role.

In an era of champion CHF and CHB he was both.

Jimmy Bartel is our man, not sure why we haven't gone and got him.
