Gavin Hughes- training with Port

I see Gavin Hughes is training with Port Adelaide. I thought he retired and left us before the season started?
Was there more to his departure than him merely deciding he didn't want to play AFL? Was it a homesick thing?

He has spent a lot of the pre-season training with Port. Hopefully he'll be back playing for the Redlegs next year.

I really don't know if taking 17 yr old boys away from their families is the right thing to do maybe the under 19s is a better idea

FWIW, Gavin was a bit more mature when we rookied him. He was about 21 IIRC.

I'm fairly certain he went back because of problems at home but either way I wish him well.
