How does a surname like 'Roughead' come about? These used to be all descriptive ie. Baker, Johnson (John's son). The historical origins of Roughead would be fascinating... although I suppose with the modern specimens of Hawthorn's and our Rougheads as evidence it's not too hard to surmise the rationale for it.Comment
