Shaun Burgoyne to walk out on Port Adelaide for fresh start with Victorian club

    Stephen Rielly | September 11, 2009

PORT Adelaide's tumultuous year is poised to lurch towards crisis, with its vice-captain and best player, Shaun Burgoyne, set to walk out for a fresh start in Victoria.

It is understood Burgoyne came to his decision almost a fortnight ago and that the news will be broken to Port at a meeting between his manager, Ben Williams, and the club today.

Not since Chris Judd left West Coast for Carlton at the end of 2007 has a player of such quality decamped. Judd was from Melbourne and returned to be nearer to family.

Huge news but as talented as he is his injury concerns might deter a lot of clubs.

This bloke can play, no doubt. Port Adelaide seems to be in big trouble. Already the writings on the wall that it's going to be a long cold winter at Port in 2010. I know where my money will be on first coach sacked next season.

Bit of a risk with his age and dodgy knees. Luckily he will be out of our price range.

I'm counting down for Mantis' Post suggesting a straight swap for Eagleton.............as long as it comes with a draft pick.................doesn't have to be an early one.

The very first thing he was in charge of when he started his role at Port was to look after the Byron Pickett pre-season tribunal case for his bump on an Adelaide player (can't remember who) - ended up getting 6 weeks.

Nobody can hold a whiteboard quite like Rohder, sorry Peter.

Shaun Burgoyne move to Victoria on hold

                Stephen Rielly | September 12, 2009

THE knee injury that effectively ruined Shaun Burgoyne's season appears now to be complicating the Port Adelaide midfielder's ability to take his career to Melbourne.

Burgoyne's manager, Ben Williams, spoke to Port Adelaide yesterday and told the club the 26-year-old wants more time to consider his position, will listen to any offer it has but will not be recommitting to the club in the near future.

Williams and Port's head of football operations, Peter Rohde, spoke yesterday morning but did not meet as planned.

Instead, Rohde visited Burgoyne in an attempt to ascertain the reason for his reluctance to sign a new contract.

Looks like Port are doing everything to suck up to him (we love him?)
