For those that were there, how many attended. What did Rocket say in his speech and what else was referred to in speeches - thanks.

Absolutely - two weeks off footy and i forget about murph

It would require a Harbrow like jump from Ward

I think they said that there was about 900 present. Smorgon spoke about the fightback 20 years ago and how far the club has come. Rocket spoke about the team ethic and culture of the playing group and how it had developed and how success was not far away.

Agreed it would take a big step but this boy has it in spades.Remembering he will be entering his 3rd pre-season I expect huge things from this lad next year and it wouldn't surprise me if he even finishes top 5 IMO

Agreed, this kid has improved out of sight so far. I expect he has the mental toughness & discipline to take further steps next season. Can't wait to see him & Harbrow further develope next season.

Rocket also spoke of the courage of the players and how selfless they are - which is why our goals are kicked by so many players and we didn't have leading Brownlow votes. It was just very much on the idea of the "team". And as mentioned, we're not too far away.

Eade also mentioned how very few Teams get to have what we have in terms of working for each other. He really did sing praise on the playing group for the season and especially for their effort in the Prelim.

After Boydy was announced winner David Smorgon took the microphone again this time impromptu to single out the ethic of the top 3, Boyd, Cross and Morris, stating that it wasn't by chance that these 3 were the ones that finished where they did. At this moment I couldn't help but feel for the remaining players on the list as I'm sure they also have their story to tell on the struggles of getting where they have. I thought David was out of line with this speach. His earlier planned speach though I thought was inspiring as they often are.

And not wishing to be too picky but did think it was pretty poor that the table with the Lakes', Cooneys', Shaggy & Skip stayed seated whilst the majority at least stood to give a standing ovation to Boyd on announcement on winning the award.

I thought Boyd made a telling remark in his acceptance speech. Sandy Roberts said something along the lines of "you're well known to be very competitive, you'd argue with anyone to get your point across" and Boyd said "I've got my opinions and I make them known. I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to win a premiership". I think it suprised the crowd, and everyone applauded.

If Boyd is made captain after Johnno, he won't be taking any shit from the playing group, I'd imagine.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

I think that just about makes him captain in my book. He completely won me over with that statement.

IMO Cross didn't have that great of a year at all.

He would not have featured in my Top 5.
But none of us know what the match committee have told him to do each week.

                              Good point.

It's hard to keep tab of each player's role throughout a single game, let alone an entire season.

After hearing that, would love to have Matty as our next captain.
