    Rubbish game.

Can't believe the way Richmond continued to flood and get all their numbers behind the ball. At many stages in the game and particularly in the last quarter they had 15+ players inside our 50m arc. Terrible coaching. How do they learn doing that stuff?

They stormed out of 50m many times, had no option to kick to and then went sideways and backwards until they turned it over. But it wasn't a certain Bulldog goal, 'cause the Tiger players hadn't even run and presented to help out, there they were all still inside our 50m arc waiting for the pill to come back. It was like the old defensive flood the Dogs used in 2000 against the Bombers without any flair or run. Terrible stuff from Richmond.

Yes we looked rusty and also butchered the footy on many occasions. However if we kicked straight after half time it could have easily been 100+ win. In saying that we would not want to serve up that intensity and finish against the Hawks next week. Hoping that the Tigers brought us down to their level a little, especially with their gameplan (or lack of).

      35 scoring shots to 13...
And only a 72 point win to come from that?
Sure, a win that large is very nice, but more accuracy would have been fantastic!

I couldn't believe that we kicked 18 behinds. A game like that against a decent opponent we would have lost quite easily.

Picken, Minson and Giansiracusa have had two ordinary weeks. Barely touch it and when they do, they haven't inspired. Hall was poor tonight and our forward structure is failing. Cannot play Minson, Hall AND Hahn at the same time on the ground. It doesn't work and we look incredibly slow. Bad kicking, turnovers and fumbles continued today. Boyd/Cross need to be cleaner.

          Positives:

          * Everitt was fantastic. I thought he was in our top 5-6 players today. Took some strong marks, handled the ball well, dispsoed of it very well and was prepared to work hard and take the game on. Really encouraging signs.

          * Gilbee's return to form. His disposal and decision making was elite tonight. Great to see his change of form as he's a crucial player in terms of overcoming the quality sides.

          * Harbrow didn't get a lot of it, but his disposal and decision making was much improved. Hill had a better game than last week too although he needs to perform against the top 4-5 sides.

          * Cooney and Griff were fairly impressive. Cooney needs to finish off his work though - let himself down today a few times. Nevertheless he was very good. Griff's disposal was much better and he didn't bomb away like he has in the past. Only wish he'd stop kicking around his body.

          * Murph has been our standout forward in the first two weeks. Pity he hasn't had a whole lot of help, but he's moving well, marking well and hitting up his targets.

          * Moles had a good debut. Made a couple of errors, but for the most part was pretty handy. His clean hands are very good under pressure and he always plays on. You can see he's come from Geelong with how he plays the game. Doesn't ever over play situations.

          * Aker got a fair bit of the ball and looked fit. Picked it up really well but probably let himself down a few times with his disposal. All the same, he played pretty well.

            Rubbish game.

Atrocious kicking - should have won by over 100 points.

At times they took the ball away too easily - even if they didn't do anything with it. If we are going to let other teams do this with ease - we in a for a few more smashings.

Why can't someone hang back in the goal square. Too often we are leaving the square empty - why can't we sneak goals through like other teams? Because we aren't there.

Hopefully we played down to Richmond's level - other wise it may be a long year - 72 point win or no 72 point win.

Gee some hard markers on here. overall pleased with the result and pleased we put the foot to the throat in the last quarter[albeit to many points] They had a bigger flood than Noah's Ark I think they even had the trainers in the defensive 50 to limit the damage. If Hardwick thinks that's teaching young players then I'm a Dutchman's uncle, missed to many tackles for mine and hopefully up the intensity for next week

tough crowdThey kicked 7 goals,it wont be a long year. Ask me if I'd take a 72 point win and no injuries I'd stick it in my back pocket and head to the carpark

I agree Minson's clumsiness and failure to clunk marks is a source of immense frustration

Why don't you delete all the parts of the post you quoted which don't refer to comments on Minson?

I thought Hall did well to get his 4 shots at goal (one out in the full for anyone checking the stats) with the Richmond defenders/mids looking to drop in front of him even if he was a bit more sloppy with his marking and kicking this week.

We were never going to have a great looking forward structure with Richmond playing the way they did but I though having Hall there helped create space for the mid sized forwards when they didn't have the whole team in the defensive 50.

Not an attractive win but it wasn't going to be an attractive game after that 1st quarter.

Re: Game Day - R2 Western Bulldogs vs Richmond

Wow, there are some tough critics tonight. Sure, our intensity and skill levels were not flash, but we won the game, and I'll take that any day. Yes, our opponents were poor, but hey, we put the scores on the board. The biggest letdown was the 18 behinds... our radars were obviously on the blink. I agree that we need to convert opportunities, as the best teams do.

I thought Everitt and Hill were good, showed promising signs. That said, I'm not convinced Hill will keep his spot. Moles did well for his debut game (in the season proper).

Hall had a rough afternoon, but that's gonna happen - he's not going to kick a bag each week. Had he converted better, he would've had an OK day. IMO, his presence alone is a positive, it brings others into the game - 12 individual goal scorers is proof of that. He was double-teamed a number of times, this gives chances to others.

WILLLBUR frustrated the hell out of me today - giving away so many frees really hurts us.

Aker got a bit of it, and he's so smart.

Not our best effort, but as I've said, offer me a 12 goal win, and I'll take it.

                          Picken? Seriously?

He tagged the winner of Richmond's last two B&F's out out the game completely, Deledio barely touched the ball after quarter time. Did it go unnoticed that Richmond were trying to continuously rough him up off the ball to put him off his game?

I definitely respect your analysis TBB and again agree with most of it, but the comments above suprised me.

Picken and Minson aren't really supposed to get a lot of the ball, it would be par for the course for them to be amongst our bottom 5 ball getters as they were this week, with one our second ruckman and the other a tagger. If their opponents are dominating, then that is a different story. Gia had 25 touches, 6 marks and a goal, that looks OK to me.

The forward structure comments don't make sense to me, as the structure is the same as last year except Hall in for Welsh, and Barry's defensive pressure could be argued as being better than Welsh's - and last year we were the highest scoring side in the comp. Defensive pressure from the forwards has been an issue for a while (see the Carlton game last year, Collingwood game last week) however it was awesome in the NAB cup with the same setup

There was a comment made on SEN radio re. Moles that he seemed a bit nervous and tried to do too much and over played things, this was when he gave away a free for holding the ball just before half time. Obviously you saw it differently, I would be interested to hear your reasoning
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

That is a pretty big change. I don't think we used to look up and bomb to Welsh all the time.

Aker is a year older too, and IMO it shows. It probably will with Johnno too.

Aker was easily in our top 5-6 today.
