    Record Busting Bulldogs

Starting to compile a list. Feel free to add. Start with the obvious ones and try to find some more obscure ones.

    400 handpasses in a season,
    finishing with 423.

    Chris Grant

    Grant kicked 51 goals-first season,
youngest player in VFL-AFL history to do it

    Tony Liberatore

only player -best-and-fairest medals VIC under-19, Reserves and VFL/AFL.
shortest players to have played in the VFL/AFL competition
shortest player to have won a Brownlow Medal.
record in the VFL/AFL for the most career tackles.

Wally Donald / Herb Henderson/ Jim Gallagher.

    of conceding only 959 points

      Thanks!

1967 – Footscray make history by becoming the first wooden spooners to win the night Premiership, defeating South Melbourne 101 to 56.

          May need to confirm, however:

Todd Curley - first AFL player to be suspended for making contact with an umpire (WCE game from memory, 4 games reduced to 2 on appeal).

I think you're correct with the suspension part but we were playing Hawthorn at Docklands. The free kick & goal they got from it turned the game IMO.

I just found this on google:

            TRIBUNAL
The biggest one out of this was a 4 match suspension to Bulldog Todd Curley for crashing into a field umpire. He was not reported on the day, but the free kick did result in a goal to Hawthorn. He was reported on video evidence. Coach Terry Wallace again pleaded his player's case, saying the umpire had changed course and ran into Curley's path as Curley was chasing the ball. Curley said his focus was the ball and he did not see Umpire Nicholls, who reported tingling in his arm and a sore neck. Nicholls refuted Curley's plea, saying he believed video footage showed that Curley had time to deviate his course to avoid contact. Former umpire boss Peter Schwab was also a witness for the defence, saying that while he understood the league's concern with player/umpire contact, accidents were going to occur because of the frenetic pace of the game. The panel ruled Curley's actions unintentional but reckless as he should have possibly taken care to be aware of Nicholls' presence. The Bulldogs appealed the decision, hoping to have the verdict and/or penalty overturned. They called in a human perception specialist who testified that peripheral vision can be reduced under stress. The club also claimed that not only players had a duty of care to avoid contact, but the umpires likewise needed to have the same duty of care. The guilty verdict was upheld, but the sentence was reduced to 2 weeks. The Appeals Board ruled that Curley's actions were negligent but not reckless.

Umpire Nicholls (Kieron) happens to be my son in law. At the time of the report he was ostracised from all family functions. To this day he tells us that he did not want any action to be taken but was forced by Schwab.
As revenge I have turned his two daughters from Essendon supporters, who he and his family follow into Bulldogs.

Granty was the first player to be overruled by the umpires (who saw nothing in the incident with Nick Holland) and forced to face the tribunal by the infamous Ian Collins. Was found guilty and robbed of a Brownlow medal.

John Georgiades kicked 6 with his first 6 kicks didnt he?

Cheers for the clarification Suz, and nice revenge Doggy.

Street was the tallest player ever to play AFL in his first game, and still the equal tallest ever at 211cm (with Sandi)

Simon Beasley kick the most goals in the VFL in the 80's

I think Michael Roach and Bernie Quinlan kicked more in the VFL home and away seasons than Beasley.

So who did recruit the first Muslim in AFL?
Sedat Sir was pointed to on another thread, and can't find anyone earlier.
Could be another first for WB

Beasley had the most goals over a ten year period but I am not sure which ten years.

Beasley kicked more goals in the 80's than either but I don't know if that includes finals or not
