Volunteers needed; 'Win the west' Bulldogs Blitz

Another initiative we thought a few of you might be interested in. It has only been launched today. As always any feedback is welcome!

    Call for volunteers

The Western Bulldogs are seeking nominations from Members and Fans to be the face of a new Club campaign to win the hearts and minds of Melbourne’s West.

If you are a passionate Bulldog and can commit to volunteering your time for a minimum of three consecutive days between the 25th February and 2nd March – WE WANT YOU.

Volunteers will be a part of one of five ‘Win the West Blitz Teams’ who will be supported from Whitten Oval to go out into the Western Region, our heartland, to spread the word that the Bulldogs are the team of the Mighty West.

Activities include doorknocking and street walking; handing out information about the Club; collecting information for the Club and encouraging people and businesses to engage with the Bulldogs.

    If you:
    · can commit a minimum of three consecutive days of your time between 25th February and 2nd March
    · are friendly, confident and comfortable talking to people about the Bulldogs, and;
    · are happy to collect information for your Club

    Nominations close Thursday 31st January
Successful nominees will be informed by Thursday 7th February
An information session will be held for successful nominees closer to the date

This is not new, I remeber one of my Aunties door knocking a few years back.
I know the club has to start somewhere but door knocking ?
We have made great in roads this year in the world of tech, surely their are more modern avenues to get the word out.

The only way for us to get the support is if we are winning games and doing well. If that is happening will get the support from everywhere if not then it will become harder.

          I disagree.

There are other ways to get people involved, and door knocking, while unflashy, would be a cheap way to try and get people interested in the club again and give them a bit of a nudge,

Winning alone is not enough. North were succesfull in the 90's bringing home two premierships and all through the last 10 years they have still struggled for support. We have had two 4 year periods of winning and we still are not strong. Richmond however have been consistently mediocre and look at their numbers.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

True with North in that they had success but didn't build a bigger supporter base. Why do some clubs do it better than others?

How do you explain Richmonds substantial increase in memberships over the years?

The club should be encouraged and applauded for getting on the front foot. Not hit with the same old onfield success equals off field success argument.

We should look to clubs like Richmond who haven't been that successful yet have a big increase in membership.

Telemarketing, email marketing, direct mail marketing… all of which don't really come across as personal. I'm not saying they're bad — in fact, I do it for part of my living — but I agree that door-knocking gives that great chance to get up close and personal, and make the person feel wanted. After all, someone took the effort to walk up their front path.

I'm hoping they back it up with something akin to what Essendon did — pick a street with the most members and get the players to go thank them, then hype the hell out of it.

And play their home games at the 'G, which, conveniently, is in/near Richmond. I don't think that's the only reason but it surely couldn't hurt.

I have a job on weekends delivering catalogues on doorsteps. The amount of people who have 'do not doorknock' stickers, sometimes three or four of them, has increased to the degree that one feels it might actually be counter productive?
