    Re: Pre-season Training Thread 2014

It makes me think about the huge upside this season offers with a fresh / fit list. Williams, Higgins, Smith, JJ available + the rise of Macrae, Stringer, TC & Co + Crammers... Hear the bark - Fear the bite
I'm paying money, the girl's happy, she's got no money, I got my rocks off, how good is this...

      Great on a bumper sticker.

I've been meaning to post this foe a while. At pre Christmas session the players were just about to start a competitive drill. Just as the first players line up the coach said "do this with intensity but don't hurt each other"
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Sounds like he's having to hold them back!
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

I think it's an important thing to have to remind younger players of.

All the older blokes would know how to go hard at it with intent pretty much all the time (or they should, anyway) without taking it beyond the edge of what's reasonable.

Younger players sometimes don't get it and end up injured. I've seen it happen plenty of times at training.
            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I agree, interesting indeed. I know it's great that Goodes has come back in good shape (pardon the pun) but what is that saying about our midfield group? Probably nothing, but would it be better to see a younger bloke winning a 2km time trial?
They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!

Goodes has a lot of football under his belt and maybe he is benefiting from being in the AFL system all be it a bit late in life. He may just burn bright for the next couple of seasons if he can keep his body injury free. Then age may catch up very quickly.

Agreed. I think he has two more years where he might be able to produce consistent football but there could also be a rapid loss of form. It's encouraging to see that he is giving it his best shot though.

I remember a conversation I had with Macca at last year's East/West family day. I commented on Lin Jong and what a powerful frame he had for a young bloke. I suggested that with appropriate development he could become quite a physical weapon onfield.

Macca agreed and mentioned that he had encouraged Jong to use his physical attributes more but had to reign him in when he became too eager at training and started hurting his teamates.
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

Lin is a big unit. If he could get a good run injury wise he could be good for us.

Yet another 'wrecking ball' for the books. Brilliant.

OPEN TRAINING: Tomorrow 9:45am (Wednesday 15 January) will be the next open training session and the final open session of this week.

It will be hot again out there

The boys sweated it out on the track yesterday morning, another solid running session to finish off after skills.

Unfortunately won't get very far unless he learns how to dispose the ball accurately.

Or model his game on Dale Morris who kicks well within his limitations and also lacks rebounding nous at times.

Jong is a super athlete and similar size to Glove.
