Bankers and Anchors - Round 23

This is the round 23 edition of the Weekly Bankers and Anchors Thread. Once the game against GWS Giants is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys that you we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

    Bank them, then, Anch them.

      Bankers
Stringer a goal in every quarter
      Morris heaps of intercept marks
Bonts standing up in big moments

      Anchors
Stringer dropping the mark to win the game
Poor skills and effort most of the game
      Austin costing us yet again
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

        Bankers
Liberatore - runs hard defensively, good inside game
Crameri and Stringer - continue to build on their union up forward
Griffen - played well to cap a good finish to the season

        Anchors
Austin - perhaps his last game, wasn't great today
Hrovat - got involved and did some good things but some poor disposal at times cost us
Missing goals - once again cost us, we simply need to nail our opportunities when they present
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

          Bankers

Griffen- Lifted like a captain should

Stringer- A big positive influence up forward... Except for

Morris- Stopped a number of forward entries.

          Anchors

          Austin- Can't play

MaCrae- 8 touches and was sucked in by his tagger.

Leaving the corridor open like it's an autobahn

Macrae had 20 touches, wasn't his best game, but shows the quality of our team when a 2nd year player is getting tagged.

              Bankers

Griffen - bought his kicking legs today. Hit targets at distance
Young - at least ran all day and tried to run off the backline when he could
Murphy - the class of the side

              Anchors

Gia - for someone who built a rep for kicking goals, your last game wasn't the day to become gun shy
Stringer - what preceded the last 30 seconds didn't matter - dropped a sitter and we lost the game. Hope summer hurts, because that hurts us supporters
              Austin - potato factory awaits

                Bankers
                Mr. Morris our most reliable.
                Griff was terrific today
Bonts. Time to work our membership campaign around this guy.

                Anchors

For picking Austin. What a waste bringing him in all these weeks and leaving Roberts in the cold.
For picking Young who has no defensive game at all and exposed again today.

And one to the umps just because I can

                  Bankers:

Griffen - could not have done more to try and get us over the line.
Bontempelli- also lifts when we need him.
                  Stringer - our best forward.

                  Anchors:

Austin - just has all the wrong instincts. Not up to the level unfortunately.
Macrae- refuses to meaningfully defend when the opposition have the ball. Needs to improve that area - and his kicking, to be the elite player he should become.
Crameri - bad errors and frees/50s take away from the good things he can do.

                    BANKERS:

Finding out that Collingwood could have signed James Stewart of GWS under the father and Son Rule but used pick on Jesse White.

Griff for nearly dragging us over the line. He couldn't have done anymore.I saw him limping badly after the game. Shows his dedication.

We now get a draft pick before Carlton.

                    ANCHORS

The paltry amount of our supporters at the game for Gia's last.

Our game plan....not sure exactly what it is besides kicking long into the forward line.

Our Club not improving on wins this year compared to last. You always like to see an upward graph with any coaching regime.

                      Bankers

                      * Griffen - our only A Grader
                      * Stringer and Crameri for giving us something to kick to.
                      * Gia - Thank you for your contribution.

                      Anchors

                      * Austin and Young - Not AFL Grade
                      * Lack of speed
                      * The whole team - 19 behinds is woeful.
