Re: Matthew Boyd: living and learning

There's an article in the Herald Sun today about the statistically best and worst kicks in the AFL this season (sorry - can't seem to find it online). The stat takes into account kicking efficiency and also the difficulty of the kick - ie taking the easy option every time wont get you to the top of the list. Amazingly Matthew Boyd is number 1 in the league (Bob is number 7)! Who would have picked that prior to this season?

Predictably the worst kicks are largely inside midfielders who are often kicking under extreme pressure - exactly how Boyd has spent most of his career.

Who knew that Boydy was a good kick all along!

I actually got sick of people focusing on Boyd's bad kicks and ignoring his good kicks. When you look at disposal efficiency stats for inside mids they are all around the 60 to 65% mark. Only the out and out guns are above that.

Ahh, but a lot of those kicks hurt soooo much.
