Many cultures, one game: Dogs reveal multicultural guernsey

    Link

The Western Bulldogs will wear a specially designed guernsey against Essendon this Sunday at Etihad Stadium to commemorate AFL Multicultural Round.

The guernsey was inspired by the idea of blending together different cultural artwork styles to create a piece of art that represents the joining of many heritages and cultures to create one harmonious community.

The Bulldogs’ spiritual home of Footscray is characterised by a diverse multicultural community, which reflects the successive waves of immigration experienced by Melbourne, and Footscray in particular.

Incorporating elements of Russian, Indian, African, Chinese, Italian and Polish print, the guernsey includes the phrase ‘many cultures one game’, capturing the spirit of unity which Multicultural Round is about.

The Western Bulldogs will be represented this year by Norm Smith medallist Jason Johannisen and Lin Jong who have been named as one of 19 Australia Post AFL Multicultural Player Ambassadors for 2017.

The multicultural jumper is the third alternative design the Club has worn this year, along guernsey’s commemorating, indigenous round and Bob Murphy’s 300th game.

We have all this multicultural stuff and it's quite strange the UK never get a mention, even Footscray is named after a place in England. Or do we not count England as one of the cultures which had probably the most influence?
Or would it upset the aboriginal part of Australia to mention it?
Good or bad it's a big part of Australian culture.
Yes me being born in England made me wonder.

When 'retro round', 'freak week' and 'lefty round' all get an equal platform of having a week too. Well, the cynic in me thinks not much of the AFEL and its motives.

We are still under English rule here being part of the monarchy. Not sure it will ever be mentioned unless we were a republic.

The AfL line is to recognise all cultures.

On the AFL players Association site, there is a map of the world showing where all the players who were either born overseas, or have one parent born overseas come from. There are plenty from the UK.

I'm not advocating either way just saying why I think they won't mention it.

To be fair to the AFL I believe we do this with everything English and multicultural in Aus.

Would you be happy if they said European instead? They grouped all the African nations as one continent so it's no different.

It would be very tedious to name all the cultures and we all are very much aware of Australia's European heritage since it's basically the basis of our entire culture.

Our head of state is the British Monarch and the british flag is plastered onto our national flag. Not sure what else you need really.

It has singled out Italians and polish which are European .. But yeah I guess European would cover most Of Australia's different cultures.
Love the latest Australia post ad on it I must say.

That's not the AFL recognising it though.
Which is the point of the round.
I just thought it a little strange the biggest never gets a mention.
Not sure the kiwis ever get a mention either.

I'm staggered there is no Vietnamese in there!
Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell

Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath

And we all found heaven - 2016 Premiers!
