    Biggs Retires

Western Bulldogs defender Shane Biggs has announced his retirement from AFL football.

The 27-year-old informed the Club today of his decision to end his career, which has spanned six seasons with the Bulldogs and Sydney Swans, including a premiership in 2016.

“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to play at the highest level for two great clubs,” Biggs said.
“I’ve made some great mates in the game and some incredible memories which will stick with me forever.

“It has been a great experience, but it’s time for me to explore other opportunities outside of footy and I’m excited about finding some new challenges.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped me along the journey, particularly my team-mates and my coaches, and to the fans for their support.”

Biggs has played 63 games in his AFL career, which began after he was rookie-listed to Sydney at the end of 2012.

He played six games over two years with the Swans before being traded to the Bulldogs at the end of the 2014 season.

Biggs made a strong impact in 10 appearances in the back half of 2015, before putting together his most consistent season at AFL level in the Club’s premiership year, where he didn’t miss a game, averaged 21 disposals and kicked four goals.

He has registered 21 games over the last two seasons, including five in 2018.
“Shane has been a valued member of our playing group for the last four seasons, and we are grateful for all the hard work he has put in during his time at the Club,” said Bulldogs’ Senior Coach, Luke Beveridge.

“He can be proud that he leaves the game as a premiership player, and for the impact he has had on everyone at the football club.
“We wish Shane all the best for the next chapter in his life.”

Good on him. Thanks for your service Shane. We'll never forget "that" play, and you'll forever be a Bulldogs Premiership hero.

The old break up with your partner just before you're about to be dumped trick.

Seriously though he had a great season in 2016 but his heart just didn't seem in it this year. Guess there are people like Dale Morris who would do anything to play footy and those like Shane that can take it or leave it. Personally I think he's insane but everyone is different, good luck to him.

That passage of play in 4th quarter GF 2016 was just unbelievable. So much effort and repeat pressure from the back flank to finally set up a goal. Doesn't get on the highlight reel but was one of the key moments to get us over the line.

This thread feels like déjà vu. Who was it on here that said Biggs had lost the desire to play the game? They were spot on considering he has retired
