Things are just getting better for the Western Bulldogs, with 2018 best and fairest winner Lachie Hunter expected to sign a new deal only days after Marcus Bontempelli re-signed.
As reported by SEN’s Sam McClure, Hunter is eyeing a long-term deal, which could amount to $600,000 per season across five years.

The 24-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of 2019.

Hunter edged out Jack Macrae by one vote to claim the club’s 2018 Charles Sutton Medal, after a season in which he averaged 29.8 disposals per match.

The 2016 premiership player, whose father also played for the Bulldogs, signalled his intention to re-commit to the club when he accepted the award in October.

“I know it probably wasn’t the easiest year at the start to watch,” Hunter said.

“But hopefully with the group we’ve got together now — all the young fellas we’ve got and the 23 to 25-year-old’s who are starting to look all right — we can move together.”

Bontempelli, who was due to be off contract at the end of next season, has penned a two-year contract extension to stay at Whitten Oval at least until the end of the 2021 season.

The length of tenure makes the premiership star eligible for free agency at the end of his contract but Bontempelli said there were other factors at play in determining his new deal.

“You’ve got to consider those things with football now (but) it wasn’t a huge part of it,” he said.

“I can understand the speculation around a long term deal … it suits particular players and particular clubs.

“We were happy to extend for two. Most of all it keeps me accountable to want to grow more and be the best player I can be.

“It’s been home to me for so many years now that I don’t see myself going anywhere else.

“There’s not too much more to it than that.”

It would be great to get Lachie signed and safely kept away from free agency for many years to come.

I feel like Hunter getting 600 a year on current form is understood for the club, or is that just me?

What does the club maybe understand?

Lol. I've got a new phone and I still haven't figured out the predictive text.

Yes, you understand I meant unders. Understood?

Perhaps you should have a conscious uncoupling?

Hang on, I don't understand, are we getting Hunter for unders?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
