    I can help Bulldogs: Dimattina

THIS exclusive picture proves moves are afoot to challenge the Western Bulldogs' board.

Former player and businessman Paul Dimattina met powerbroker Simon Beasley yesterday at The Botanical hotel in South Yarra to discuss the prospect of Dimattina, and possibly others, seeking seats on the board.

Such a move could be the first major step in a bid to end the 15-year reign of David Smorgon as Western Bulldogs president.

Dimattina told the Herald Sun last night that he wanted to join the Bulldogs' board to help safeguard the club's long-term future.

Dimma coming on board would be awesome.

I'm all for a fresh approach and some new thinking but I don't want to see things get messy and have a upheaval that could undermine the huge steps that the club has taken since the dark days.

Most of the board members are around Smorgo's age. They may be the best people available but I've thought for a while the club would benefit from having someone from a younger age group with different business contacts and ideas.

Dimma should not be saying he's met with a former AFL premiership coach. I don't care that he has but its destabilising to the current coach and the club and until he's on the board it's not his call.

One of the great things about Smorgons time at the club is that board changes as the needs of the club become evident and they have consistently added specialists in the areas they are focusing on. Paul Dimattina has been a very successful businessman and I think he would be a welcome addition in some capacity.

I'm just not certain why this has been played out through the media rather than Dimattina directly contacting David Smorgon?
Smorgon's interview on SEN indicated that Dimattina had not been in contact with him about joining the board or even challenging it and I believe him 100% when he says that would welcome people with plans or proposals to help the club clear the debt.

I believe a united board is the fundamental reason why we have been a successful club since Smorgon took over and if Dimattina can add something to it then it has to be a positive.

            I totally agree GVG.

I want Dimma on the board but I am a little concerned with his comments. As PI mentioned, I don't like him talking about meeting with another coach and going through the media. It all seems very populist. A little Abbott (or Gillard I guess) like with his out and out pandering to stupid angry people.

He's CEO. I don't know my way around the top of organisations but I'm going to assume that Simon does have a seat in there somewhere.

He does, and from memory he had a spot on the board before taking on the COO and then CEO roles.

Change might be needed, change might be refreshing, but all these clandestine meetings and 'secret' conversations will only destabilise and distract, IMO.

Would anyone actually sign such a petition? I want Smorgon to make sure he stays president for the full term he was re-elected and then go for there. If Smorgon is still the right man for the job he should continue to stay as our president. He has done so much for our club.

I would like to see Dimma on the board and maybe one day taking over the presidency but it really does seem like a coup to me. Why is he talking to a former AFL premiership coach? Why is this being played out in the media?

I want stability in our club and board. That's what we have achieved for the last few years and I want to maintain that stability.

Maybe he can read lips or has a LD on Dimma's phone. Ever thought of that?
